PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Pounder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicky Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Pounder might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to People in Planes-Last Man Standing. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pounder.
Fernandez just misses with a punch to the body.
Pounder ducks under a wild hook from Fernandez.

and Pounder counters with a left and a right that stings Fernandez.
Nicky Fernandez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fernandez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Fernandez swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Pounder wants to stand and escape but Fernandez is having none of it.
Fernandez wants to control from the top but Pounder keeps moving.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pounder trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Pounder seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Pounder is looking to stand up but Fernandez isn't so interested in that idea.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Pounder takes one on the button.
Pounder tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Pounder counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Fernandez thinking.
Pounder throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Fernandez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pounder was covering up waiting for the punch and Fernandez finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pounder is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Fernandez is controlling him.

and Pounder counters with a shoot takedown. Fernandez fights it but they end up in guard.

Pounder sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fernandez's guard.

Pounder takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Pounder's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Fernandez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pounder moves away.

Fernandez throws a lazy right hand but Pounder sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Fernandez scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pounder doesn't seem bothered though.

Fernandez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pounder looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Pounder shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fernandez as he jumps to the side.

and Pounder counters by moving into the clinch.
Pounder tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Fernandez smiles and moves away.

Fernandez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Pounder!
Jim Pounder has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fernandez tries to move to mount but Pounder blocks the move with his legs.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pounder wants to get back to his feet but Fernandez drags him back down.
