Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zhelin Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ross Stuart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross Stuart has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zhelin Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ross Stuart!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stuart lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Li circles away quickly and effectively.
Stuart lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Nice body punch from Li.
Li shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stuart defends it nicely.
Li moves out of range as Stuart throws a body kick.
Stuart misses with a series of wild punches.

Li closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Li misses with a head shot. Stuart uses the momentum to regain guard.
Li trying to control but Stuart is working from the bottom.
Stuart has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Stuart keeping moving, preventing Li from controlling successfully.

Stuart preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Li forces his way into half guard.
Well, if Li is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

We've been hearing good reports from Li's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Li drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stuart looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stuart looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stuart!
Li is looking for a sweep.
Stuart trying to control the position but Li is working away.
Stuart scoring with punches and elbows.
Li is looking to regain half guard here but Stuart keeps moving and retains side control.
Li looks to move to half guard but instead Stuart has passed into mount! Damn!

Li manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Stuart with the ground and pound but Li uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Li doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Li is pressing down on Stuart's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Stuart keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Li displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Stuart throws out the jab.

Stuart closes the distance and clinches.
Li fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Li has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stuart is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zhelin Li. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stuart lands a left hand.
Li misses with a body punch.
Li takes a shot to the head.
Stuart lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
A short uppercut from Stuart.

Stuart has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Li clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Stuart lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Li.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Stuart has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Li's face.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ross Stuart has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Stuart scores with a hook to the body. Li takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Li takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Li tries for a takedown but Stuart sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Stuart leaves Li with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stuart paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

You can see the frustration on Li's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stuart scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Li to see if he's OK.

Li is really struggling to control Stuart but he's trying to hold on to the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Li takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Stuart must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Li throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Stuart escapes and throws Li's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Oooh a big shot gets through from Stuart. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

I would just about give that final round to Ross Stuart.
Well Stuart has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
