PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shad Wagner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Booker DeWitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Booker DeWitt will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shad Wagner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Booker DeWitt!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Francis DeMontford and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wagner shoots for a double leg takedown but DeWitt sprawls well. He's pushed Wagner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
DeWitt tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wagner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten DeWitt somewhat.
DeWitt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
DeWitt misses with a takedown attempt - Wagner sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Shad Wagner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Booker DeWitt.
DeWitt tries for a takedown but Wagner circles away easily
and Wagner makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
DeWitt avoids the head kick by Wagner.

Wagner shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. DeWitt is trying to defend but Wagner finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
DeWitt controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

DeWitt is defending against the submission attempts here by Wagner.

DeWitt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Well, if Wagner is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DeWitt wants to control but Wagner is keeping busy and won't allow it.
DeWitt tries to roll over but Wagner keeps him under control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

DeWitt looking for submissions off his back.
Wagner is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Wagner is thwarting DeWitt's attempts to control the position.
Wagner prevents DeWitt from improving his position.
Wagner trying to pass the guard but DeWitt defending well.

Wagner wants to work for an arm triangle but DeWitt is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wagner wants to stand but DeWitt has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wagner missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
DeWitt is looking to improve his position.
DeWitt trying to control from the bottom.
DeWitt looks winded!
Wagner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Wagner shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches DeWitt napping and manages to drive through into side control!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wagner tries to move into full mount but can't pass DeWitt's legs.
Wagner advances nicely into full mount.
DeWitt wants to hold on but Wagner pushes him away.
Wagner tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
DeWitt is trying to stand up.
Wagner takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
DeWitt really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shad Wagner dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


DeWitt tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wagner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Wagner looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
DeWitt wants to stand up but Wagner is controlling him.

Wagner stands up and waves to DeWitt to follow him.
Wagner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Wagner tries to close the distance and clinch but DeWitt swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
DeWitt fails to land the takedown.
A combination from Wagner does no damage.
Shad Wagner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's one minute gone in the round.
DeWitt slaps away a takedown attempt from Wagner, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wagner fails with a takedown attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from DeWitt.
DeWitt is breathing heavily.
DeWitt stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shad Wagner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
DeWitt closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wagner circles away.
DeWitt has a takedown stuffed.
DeWitt leaves Wagner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

DeWitt moves into range and clinches up with Wagner.
DeWitt has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wagner is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Wagner looking to stall.
DeWitt has Wagner pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Wagner manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Wagner scores with a shoulder strike.

Wagner has hold of one of DeWitt's legs. DeWitt is fighting the takedown attempt but Wagner gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Shad Wagner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wagner slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wagner has hold of DeWitt's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! DeWitt tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Wagner cranks the arm and DeWitt screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from DeWitt, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Shad Wagner!
