PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jacques Don Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashad Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Don Pierre comes to the cage accompanied by Racionais Mc's A Vida Desafio. Rashad Barnes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rashad Barnes!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes throws a hook to the side of Don Pierre's head but Don Pierre sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Don Pierre has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Mello MMA in the buildup to the fight.
Barnes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Don Pierre.
Barnes has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Don Pierre fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Barnes manages to avoid it.

Don Pierre shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Barnes is trying to defend but Don Pierre finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Barnes regains full guard. Nicely done.

Barnes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Don Pierre loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Barnes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Don Pierre. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Barnes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Don Pierre controls the pace.
Don Pierre has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Barnes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Don Pierre counters with a nice double leg into side control. Barnes won't be happy with that.

It looks like Rashad Barnes has been cut.
Don Pierre throws a strike aimed at the side of Barnes's head but Barnes avoids it well.
Barnes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Don Pierre wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Don Pierre has hold of Barnes's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Barnes tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Don Pierre cranks the arm and Barnes screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Barnes, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
