Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Efren Solis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinji Starr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Efren Solis has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Efren Solis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Shinji Starr!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Starr dives in and scores a takedown into Solis's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Starr engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Solis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Starr's guard.
Solis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Solis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Starr is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Starr should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Starr manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Solis manages to get himself to full guard.

Starr stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Solis moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Starr closes the distance and pushes Solis back into the cage.
Solis wants to break free but Starr has control.

Starr has Solis pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Starr pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Solis tumbling to the mat - Starr dives into Solis's guard.

Solis trying to keep a closed guard but Starr is proving a slippery customer.

Starr is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Efren Solis has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Solis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Starr closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

and Starr counters with a shoot takedown. Solis fights it but they end up in guard.

Starr is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Shinji Starr has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

and Solis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Solis has Starr pressed against the cage, preventing Starr from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Starr takes an elbow to the forehead.
Solis has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Starr after a bit of a struggle.

Starr pulls guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Solis throws a big elbow that misses.
Solis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Starr tries to pull guard but Solis won't allow it.

Starr has clasped his hands together around Solis's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Solis is trying to control Starr's posture but Starr avoids it.
Starr is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Starr goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Solis has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Starr but great work by Solis.

Starr wants to get back to his feet.
Solis working the ground and pound but Starr is defending the strikes.
Starr seems a little lost for a moment, as Solis dominates the positioning.
Solis is looking to take a break and control but Starr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Starr is looking for a sweep.
Solis lands a decent elbow from side control.
Starr is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Solis has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Starr is looking to reverse the position.

Solis controls the position from side control.

Solis working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Solis throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Starr is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Solis's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Starr wants to control but Solis is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Starr can do anything to dispel that myth.
Starr wants to get back to full guard.
Solis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Starr keeps working.

Solis sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Starr defending well though.
Shinji Starr has got the better of the ground game so far.
Solis prevents Starr from standing back up.
Solis drops an elbow to the side of Starr's head.
Starr is refusing to be controlled, as Solis sits in half guard.
Solis missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Solis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Starr is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Shinji Starr will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Solis lands with a right hand.

Starr closes the distance and clinches.
Starr drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Solis gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Solis changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Starr fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Starr changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Solis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Solis tries to buck Starr off but Starr is having none of it.

Starr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Solis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Starr is working away from the top position though.

Starr seems to be working for a kimura but Solis defends the submission attempt.

Solis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Starr passes the guard and advances to mount!
Solis bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Solis has hold of one of Starr's legs. Starr is fighting the takedown attempt but Solis gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Efren Solis.
I think Starr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
