PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sanford Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Ravens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ravens darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ravens is looking to take a break and control but Sharpe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ravens tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sharpe knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sharpe really is a fat lump.

Ravens frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Ravens is working for a guillotine from mount but Sharpe frees his head quite easily.
Ravens is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ravens wants to control the pace but Sharpe is squirming around nicely.
Ravens is landing with some decent strikes but Sharpe is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Ravens can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sharpe is looking to escape.

Ravens swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Sharpe is now in Ravens's guard. A big mistake from Ravens there, giving up the dominant position!

Ravens is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sharpe defends well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sanford Sharpe.

That's time! Sharpe's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Ravens closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sharpe's guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Andy Ravens hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Ravens tries to clinch up but Sharpe circles away and keeps his distance.

Ravens decides to stand back up. Ravens steps back and let's Sharpe get back to his feet.

Andy Ravens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Sharpe drives through and clinches with Ravens against the cage.

Ravens escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sharpe gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sharpe is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Ravens can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sharpe controls the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Sanford Sharpe wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Ravens connects with a crisp jab.
Sharpe circles away from the clinch attempt.

and Sharpe counters with a two punch combo.

Sharpe drives through and clinches with Ravens against the cage.
Sharpe jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ravens walks away with a smile on his face. Sharpe gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ravens tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sharpe manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sharpe is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ravens lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Ravens closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ravens wanted to stand there but Sharpe had control of the position.

Ravens shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sharpe napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Andy Ravens is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Ravens is keen to just control but Sharpe is a slippery customer.
