Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan Abreu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matthew Romero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jordan Abreu!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Romero makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Romero dives in and scores a takedown into Abreu's guard.

Abreu had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Romero defends it easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Romero seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Abreu for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Matthew Romero wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Romero throws a series of strikes that have Abreu backpedaling.

Abreu escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Romero gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Romero decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Abreu enables Romero to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Abreu manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Abreu jumps guard and drags Romero to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Abreu is on top in guard.
Romero seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Abreu has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Romero is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Abreu.
Jordan Abreu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matthew Romero is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Matthew Romero.
Well Romero has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
