PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonny Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker comes into a darkened arena with his song building. wild boys kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonny Walker!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Pettis or perhaps it was just good defense by Walker which made him look bad.
Pettis wants to clinch.
Pettis bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Pettis misses with a straight left.
Pettis tries to clinch but Walker is having none of it.
Pettis dives in for a single leg takedown but Walker sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Pettis tries a knee to the head but Walker blocks it.
Walker is trying to maintain a safe position but Pettis gets an underhook and turns Walker into the cage.
Pettis has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Walker after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Pettis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Walker is trying to break the clinch but Pettis is controlling him.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Pettis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Pettis lands a head kick. Walker smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Pettis throws a sloppy head kick and Walker moves out of range easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Walker.
Pettis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Walker circles away quickly and effectively.
Pettis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Walker lands with an uppercut that bounces Pettis off the cage and back into range.
Pettis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Walker swings widly with a right hand
and Pettis counters with a head kick. That will keep Walker thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Walker shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pettis sprawls well. Pettis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Walker gets slowly back to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Walker is defended easily by Pettis.

Sloppy strikes from Pettis. Those never looked like landing.
Pettis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walker tries to avoid it but Pettis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walker to the ground. Walker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Walker misses with a takedown attempt - Pettis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Pettis tries to clinch but Walker moves out of range.
Walker moves into range and connects with a jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pettis moves into the clinch.

Pettis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Walker leaves Pettis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Pettis is breathing heavily.
Pettis misses with a head kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Walker lands a nice shot to the body.
Walker throws a solid leg kick but Pettis takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Walker.
Walker scores with a jab to the jaw.
Pettis throws a push kick but Walker slaps the foot to one side.

Walker clinches up with Pettis and pushes him back against the cage.
Walker controlling the action here for a moment.

Walker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Walker throws a sloppy head kick and Pettis moves out of range easily.
Walker tries to clinch up
and Pettis counters with a head kick. That will keep Walker thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!


Walker is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Some wild striking there from Pettis.
Walker is still on wobbly legs! Can Pettis finish him?
Walker moves into range and connects with a jab.
Walker ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
A head kick by Walker misses

and Pettis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pettis.

Pettis successfully pulls guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pettis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pettis is looking for a triangle but Walker pushes his legs off easily.
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but Pettis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Pettis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pettis will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Pettis looking for a guillotine here but Walker defends easily.
Walker seems to have recovered his senses.
Walker wants to pass the guard but Pettis is keeping the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Walker sitting in guard, not really doing much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Pettis will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


No joy there for Pettis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Jonny Walker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walker tries a head kick but it misses.
Walker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Walker looks to land a combination but Pettis avoids it well.
Pettis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Walker pinned against the cage. Walker gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Pettis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pettis wants it to stay on the feet.
Pettis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Pettis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Walker sprawls well. Walker wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pettis gets slowly back to his feet.
Walker jabs Pettis to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Pettis walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

A looping hook to the body misses from Pettis. Walker does a little dance to reset his feet.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Walker lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Pettis has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Pettis and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Pettis shoots in but Walker avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Walker throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Walker dips to his left and cracks Pettis with an uppercut!

Walker lands a glancing blow to the side of Pettis's head.

Walker tries to clinch but Pettis moves out of range.

Walker has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Pettis.
Walker goes for a double leg but Pettis avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pettis continues to drive forward.
Walker prevents a body shot from Pettis.
Pettis misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Pettis tries to pull guard but Walker forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Pettis is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Pettis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Walker pulls him back up using the underhooks.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jonny Walker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Walker thuds his right hand into Pettis's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Pettis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Walker is fending him off so far but Pettis persists. Nope, Walker circles away and we're back to standing.

Walker bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Pettis's head backwards.

Walker shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pettis as he jumps to the side.

Pettis stuffs the takedown attempt from Walker. Walker gets slowly back to his feet.
Walker pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Pettis shoots in looking for a takedown but Walker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pettis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Walker looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Walker misses with a head kick.
Walker keeps the fight on the outside.
Walker chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Pettis can pounce on him.
Walker has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Pettis takes one to the side of the head.

Walker wants to clinch.
Walker lands with a good body shot.
Pettis doesn't manage to clinch there - Walker circles away.
Pettis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Walker.

Pettis lands an elbow inside.
Pettis managing to block the knees to the body from Walker.

Walker is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Walker is pressed up against the cage. Pettis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Walker down to the mat. Walker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Pettis shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Walker throws a nice looking combination but Pettis bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Walker lands with a hook. Pettis tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I think Walker has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Jonny Walker was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
