PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Forrest Gryphen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gryphen kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Tubthumping. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Forrest Gryphen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Robinson!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Skip Squint and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gryphen scores with a nice strike.
Robinson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Gryphen. Gryphen obviously looking to wear him down.
Robinson blocks a head kick by Gryphen.
Robinson stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Gryphen.
Robinson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gryphen defends well and Robinson ends up having to push Gryphen into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Robinson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gryphen gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Robinson can't get the takedown.
Forrest Gryphen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Robinson.
Gryphen is pressed up against the cage. Robinson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gryphen down to the mat. Gryphen avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gryphen throws a nice looking combination but Robinson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

A bone on bone clash there as Robinson blocks the leg kick.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Robinson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

The fight stays on the outside here - Robinson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Gryphen motions for Robinson to come forward. Gryphen throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Forrest Gryphen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Gryphen takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Gryphen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Robinson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gryphen throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Gryphen throws out a leg kick but Robinson moves out of range and Gryphen only half commits.
Robinson connects with a body shot that sends Gryphen's belly button to the back.

Robinson looking to score a takedown here. Gryphen is defending well but Robinson drives through and ends up in Gryphen's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Robinson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gryphen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Robinson, into his guard.
Gryphen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gryphen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Robinson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Forrest Gryphen.

Gryphen wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Gryphen throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Gryphen scores with a sloppy right hand. Robinson should have avoided that one.
Gryphen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Robinson missing with a left hand there. Gryphen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Robinson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Robinson throwing strikes but Gryphen manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Robinson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Robinson is pushing Gryphen's head away, looking to escape. Gryphen manages to hold on to the position though.
Gryphen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Gryphen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Robinson, who protects the arm well.

Robinson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Robinson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gryphen pulls his head out easily.
Gryphen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Robinson!

Gryphen looking to control but Robinson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Robinson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That was a close second round but I would say that Forrest Gryphen will probably get the nod.

Robinson in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Gryphen tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Robinson!
