PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lester McKay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Diego (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McKay comes to the cage accompanied by Hammer To Fall - Queen. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lester McKay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Diego!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Francis DeMontford and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diego circles away from the clinch attempt.

McKay rushes Diego and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
McKay putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Diego in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Diego is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. McKay can't fight it off and eventually Diego manages to take the fight to the floor. McKay looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Diego's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diego gets to his feet. McKay looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Diego is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in McKay's half guard.
Diego thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Diego seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McKay does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
McKay trying to hold on to Diego's head to control him but Diego postures up.
Diego perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Diego works his way into full mount!

McKay is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Diego controlling the pace for now.
McKay is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
McKay keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Diego is working for a guillotine from mount but McKay frees his head quite easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McKay tries to hold on but Diego postures up.
McKay really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Diego trying to control but McKay is having none of it.

McKay has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Diego's lack of action.
Diego tries to pass to full mount but McKay defends it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Diego wants to lay and pray for a moment but McKay keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Diego dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


McKay moves in looking to clinch but Diego pushes him off.

McKay throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Diego was covering up waiting for the punch and McKay finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Diego wants to stand but McKay is controlling the position.
McKay works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Diego is concentrating on defense, preventing McKay from advancing position.
Diego is looking for a sweep. McKay is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Diego lands a couple of sideways elbows.
Diego trying to control but McKay postures up.
Jason Diego has got the better of the ground game so far.
Diego throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Diego tries to roll over but McKay keeps him under control.
Diego is holding on to half guard well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McKay wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Diego uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Diego tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
McKay fails with an attempt to clinch.
McKay tries to clinch up but Diego circles away and keeps his distance.
McKay tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diego swats him away and circles back towards the center.
McKay changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diego tries to avoid it but McKay manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diego to the ground. Diego escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McKay doesn't manage to clinch there - Diego circles away.

McKay can't keep his opponent in guard - Diego advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Diego is stalling here. McKay is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Diego seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and McKay has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Diego tries to improve position but can't.
Diego is trying to control McKay's posture but McKay avoids it.
Diego is looking to reverse the position.

Diego has one of McKay's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Diego can do anything to dispel that myth.
Diego tries to improve position but can't.
McKay tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Diego is looking to regain half guard here but McKay keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Diego showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

McKay would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Diego can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McKay controls the pace.

McKay tries to close the distance and clinch but Diego swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Diego counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Diego.
McKay landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
McKay lands a knee to the head.
Diego looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Diego is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McKay pulls him back up using the underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Diego's face as he tries to break the clinch.
McKay tries to land knees in the clinch but Diego avoids the damage to the body.
McKay is trying to stall.

McKay throws an elbow but it's blocked.
McKay is trying to maintain a safe position but Diego gets an underhook and turns McKay into the cage.

Diego turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
McKay is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Diego is controlling him well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Diego has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Diego takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Diego takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
McKay is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - McKay looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Diego is defended easily by McKay.

McKay pushes Diego up against the cage in a clinch.
McKay lands a good knee to the midsection. Diego won't want to take too many of those.
McKay gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

McKay closes the distance and pushes Diego back into the cage.

McKay creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Diego's defenses.
McKay looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Still in the clinch, McKay scores with a nice short uppercut.
McKay is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Lester McKay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Diego takes an elbow to the temple.
Diego wants to stall.
McKay comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Diego jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as McKay walks away with a smile on his face. Diego gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Lester McKay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Diego.
McKay wants to clinch up but Diego keeps it at a distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McKay shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Diego eats them both and turns towards McKay to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
McKay fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Diego.
Jason Diego is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
McKay tries to clinch but Diego is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lester McKay showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Diego has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
