PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rigor Mortis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saul Reznor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rigor Mortis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Saul Reznor!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Dean Styles and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mortis shoots in for a double leg but Reznor sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Reznor throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mortis.
Mortis lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Saul Reznor has been cut.
Mortis lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Reznor throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

and Mortis counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Reznor is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mortis pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are battling for position here. Reznor manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Mortis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reznor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Reznor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mortis looks for a takedown but Reznor sprawls well.

so Reznor counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Reznor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mortis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mortis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reznor doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reznor manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Reznor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mortis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mortis.

Mortis had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Reznor is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mortis Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Reznor's back instead.
Mortis is breathing heavily.

Reznor wants to hold on but Mortis pushes him away.

Mortis with shots to the head and body - Reznor looks very uncomfortable down there.
Mortis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Mortis swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Reznor is now in Mortis's guard. A big mistake from Mortis there, giving up the dominant position!

Reznor seems to be working for a kimura but Mortis defends the submission attempt.

Mortis wants to control but Reznor is keeping busy.

Mortis is trying to maintain the position but Reznor is very close to passing his half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Rigor Mortis will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mortis misses with a takedown attempt

and Reznor counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Reznor must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mortis lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Reznor!
Reznor is desperately trying to improve his position but Mortis has a good base and remains in mount.
Mortis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Reznor looks a forlorn figure.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
No joy there for Reznor, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Reznor drops back looking for a leg! Mortis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mortis manages to kick Reznor off! Reznor jumps back into Mortis's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Reznor counters with a three punch combo that has Mortis backing up. Mortis nods at Reznor to acknowledge the strikes.

Reznor is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mortis can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Reznor seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mortis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Reznor bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
