PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Crasher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Crasher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roy Jones!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones darts in looking for a takedown but Crasher gets double underhooks and turns Jones into the cage.

Jones manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Jones is looking for a triangle but Crasher pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Crasher engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Jones has his foot on Crasher's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Crasher works his way back into a safe position though.
Jones looks winded!
Crasher is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Crasher tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.

Jones looking for a guillotine here but Crasher defends easily.
Crasher scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Crasher decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Jones blocks a head kick by Crasher.

Crasher dives in and scores a takedown into Jones's guard.
Crasher seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Crasher sitting in guard, not really doing much.

We're going to have a standup here because Johnny Crasher wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jones shoots in and drives through. Crasher sprawls well.

Crasher throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jones tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Crasher is in Jones's guard.
Crasher advances position into side control!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Crasher can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.

Crasher is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Crasher changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Crasher manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Crasher blocks a head kick by Jones.
Crasher shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.

Crasher looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Crasher seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Jones looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Crasher lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Jones looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Crasher is trying to control the action in half guard but Jones is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Jones is refusing to be controlled, as Crasher sits in half guard.

Crasher decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Crasher moves out of range of the body kick from Jones.
Jones throws a poor cross that misses
and Crasher makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Jones really felt that one!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Crasher misses with an uppercut.
Crasher goes for a double leg but Jones avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jones continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Crasher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Crasher can't find room to land a body shot as Jones controls the action.
Crasher jumps guard but Jones stands there with Crasher around his waist. Crasher gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Crasher gets the underhooks and prevents it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Crasher.
Jones misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Crasher gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Crasher just stands there and leans against the cage.
Crasher unloads a knee to the mid-section. Jones lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Crasher putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Jones in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Crasher tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.
Crasher fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jones is breathing heavily.

Crasher gets a clinch.

Crasher manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Crasher pulls Jones in to control the position.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Crasher manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Jones can't keep his opponent in guard - Crasher advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Still in half guard, Crasher seems content to control.

Crasher is looking for a kimura here.
Jones gets back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Crasher doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Crasher manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Crasher distracts Jones with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Crasher stands and steps away. Jones gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones moves out of range of the body kick.
Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Crasher.

Jones misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Crasher.
Roy Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Crasher shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Crasher's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Crasher is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Crasher circles away and we're back to standing.

Crasher bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jones is working to avoid the ground and pound but Crasher connects with a decent elbow.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Crasher wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Crasher tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Crasher has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jones makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Crasher throws a jab but it's blocked by Jones.
Crasher slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones leaves Crasher with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Crasher circles away.

Crasher closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Crasher dodges an elbow strike from Jones.

Crasher pulls Jones into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Crasher is pulling down on Jones's head. It's preventing any offense from Jones, at least for the moment.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jones thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Crasher dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Crasher shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Crasher moves into the clinch successfully.
Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Crasher won't allow it.
Jones is trying to break the clinch but Crasher has him pressed against the cage.
Crasher effectively controlling the action here.
Crasher jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jones walks away with a smile on his face. Crasher gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Crasher seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Crasher doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.
A bone on bone clash there as Crasher blocks the leg kick.
Jones lands a head kick. Crasher smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Crasher dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Crasher's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Crasher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones misses with a wild combination.

Crasher shoots in but no luck this time.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jones tries to clinch but Crasher moves out of range.
Crasher wants to clinch.
Crasher's jab looks to have found its range, popping Jones under the eye.
Jones throws a front kick aimed at Crasher's knee but Crasher avoids it well.
Jones throws a body punch but Crasher moves out of range.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Crasher.

Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Crasher.
A nice combination there by Jones.

Crasher rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.
Jones is trying to break free.
Jones wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Crasher just stands there and leans against the cage.

Crasher's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Crasher closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Crasher wants to finish this one by submission but Jones is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Crasher.

Crasher blocks the strikes from Jones.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jones misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Jones tries to get to full guard but Crasher has control of the leg.
Jones looks like he's trying to stand up.
Crasher trying to control the action but Jones is working from the bottom.
Jones pushes Crasher off looking to stand but Crasher dives back in and keeps control.
Roy Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Johnny Crasher overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Crasher wants to take a breather but Jones is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Johnny Crasher.
Well Crasher has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
