PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tetsuya Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kirill Chernicin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kirill Chernicin was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tetsuya Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kirill Chernicin!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tate bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Tate working away.
Chernicin is letting Tate control him for a moment.

Tate stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Tate leaves Chernicin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Chernicin is looking to clinch.
Chernicin tries to clinch up.
Chernicin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tate swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Chernicin wants to clinch but Tate slips to the side

and Tate counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Chernicin's guard now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tate postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Tate gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Chernicin is looking to clinch but Tate is avoiding it.

Tate pushes Chernicin up against the cage in a clinch.
Chernicin letting Tate take a breather here.
Chernicin throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Tate escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kirill Chernicin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chernicin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Tate counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Tate.
Tate slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Chernicin is trying to control Tate's posture but Tate avoids it.
Chernicin felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Tate decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Chernicin tries to clinch there but Tate circles away.
Chernicin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tate sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Tetsuya Tate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kirill Chernicin.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tate fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Chernicin throws a head kick but Tate moves out of range.

Tate shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Tate showed some decent athleticism there.

Tate is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Chernicin sees it coming and defends easily.

Chernicin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tate pulls his head out easily.

Tate is looking for a kimura but Chernicin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tate to get the leverage.

Chernicin is defending against the submission attempts here by Tate.

Tate is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Chernicin has managed to free his arm - good work.
Tate lands with a punch from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tate will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Tate maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Chernicin could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Tate has cracked it and Chernicin is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Tate!

A relieved looking Tetsuya Tate thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
