PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Irwin Lang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tarzan Taborda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Irwin Lang has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Irwin Lang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tarzan Taborda!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Atkins and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lang tries to clinch there but Taborda circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lang enables Taborda to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lang manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Taborda is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
It looks like Taborda might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Taborda advances to half guard.
Taborda wants to pass to mount but Lang is defending the position.
Lang is looking to control Taborda's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lang avoid being mounted?
Taborda takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Taborda is looking to advance position but Lang won't allow it.
Lang controlling the position for now.

Lang is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Taborda pulls his head out easily.
It looks like Taborda is going to stand back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Taborda postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Lang will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Taborda seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lang isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Taborda stacks Lang on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Taborda!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lang can't do much from the bottom here.

Taborda wants to stand but Lang is controlling his arm.

Lang could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Lang is trying to control Taborda's posture but Taborda avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lang can't do much from the bottom here.

We've been informed that Taborda has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Lang is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Taborda is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Lang tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Taborda wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lang is breathing heavily.
Lang is working hard here to advance position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Taborda closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lang's guard.
Taborda is working Lang over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tarzan Taborda dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Lang slaps away a takedown attempt from Taborda, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lang tries to clinch but Taborda is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lang rushes Taborda and presses him up against the cage.
Taborda is breathing heavily.
Lang tries to pull guard but Taborda holds him up against the cage and eventually Lang drops back down to his feet.

Lang is fighting off a takedown attempt but Taborda is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Lang to the mat. Lang regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Lang is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Lang doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Taborda trying to control the position from guard on top but Lang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lang is looking for a triangle but Taborda pushes his legs off easily.
Lang preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Lang trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Taborda tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Taborda has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Lang prevents Taborda from moving into mount.

Taborda has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Taborda gets a double leg takedown into Lang's guard.

Lang is trying to control the position but Taborda postures up.
Taborda is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Lang is trying to keep Taborda in close.
Taborda controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tarzan Taborda wasn't active enough on the ground.
Taborda dives in for a single leg takedown but Lang sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tarzan Taborda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Lang tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Taborda smiles and moves away.
Taborda shoots in for a double leg but Lang sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Taborda shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lang is trying to defend but Taborda finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Lang looking for submissions off his back.
Taborda takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Taborda looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lang with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Taborda controlling the pace.
Taborda looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Taborda wants to stand but Lang has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Taborda is trying to work for a kimura but Lang is defending well.
Lang makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lang.

Lang is trying to hold Taborda in close to prevent damage but Taborda has managed to pass into half guard.
Lang wants to control but Taborda passes into side.
Lang struggling a bit here.
Lang is looking to reverse the position.
Lang misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Taborda is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Lang's shoulder. That is not cool.
Lang is trying to control Taborda's posture but Taborda avoids it.

Taborda is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Taborda works to advance to full mount. Lang defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Taborda controlling the pace for now.
Taborda landing strikes, looking to finish!
Taborda lands a couple of good shots and Lang has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Taborda has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Lang's body.

Lang just trying to survive but Taborda is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Tarzan Taborda comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Taborda has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
