Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Niklas Backstrom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Steven Flecher!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flecher shoots in looking for a takedown but Backstrom manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Flecher's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Flecher is looking to clinch but Backstrom is avoiding it.

Flecher has his takedown stuffed

and Backstrom counters by moving into the clinch.
Flecher has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Backstrom is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Niklas Backstrom has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Flecher.
Backstrom wants to take the fight to the mat but Flecher manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Flecher shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Backstrom sprawls well. Backstrom wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Flecher gets slowly back to his feet.

Backstrom has Flecher pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Flecher manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Flecher is pressed up against the cage. Backstrom has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Flecher down to the mat. Flecher avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Backstrom stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Flecher swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Backstrom drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Backstrom jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've been hearing that Backstrom has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Backstrom working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Flecher doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Flecher manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Backstrom is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Backstrom is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Flecher pulls his head out easily.

Backstrom has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Flecher is on him like a limpet, forcing Backstrom back against the cage.

Flecher controls the position for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Backstrom drops back, looking for a kneebar! Flecher looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Flecher looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Flecher!

Flecher stops Backstrom from getting back to his feet.

Backstrom is not content to let Flecher control the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Flecher fails with the takedown

and Backstrom counters with a shoot takedown. Flecher fights it but they end up in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Niklas Backstrom showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Backstrom, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
