PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thor Wasshammar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wasshammar kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Thor Wasshammar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Griffin misses with a looping left.
Griffin turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Wasshammar thows a left - swing and a miss!
Griffin slips a straight right by Wasshammar.
Griffin leaves Wasshammar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A punch lands to the side of Griffin 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Wasshammar is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Griffin.
Wasshammar on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Griffin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Wasshammar to score an easy takedown into full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Griffin looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Wasshammar puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Wasshammar seems to be looking for submissions.

Wasshammar is taking a breather. Griffin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Griffin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wasshammar is working away from the top position though.
Wasshammar seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Griffin felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Wasshammar not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Wasshammar not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Griffin is looking for a sweep. Wasshammar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Griffin is in trouble now - Wasshammar has advanced to mount!
Griffin is desperately trying to improve his position but Wasshammar has a good base and remains in mount.

Wasshammar breaks from Griffin's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Wasshammar is trying to control here but Griffin has managed to regain half guard.
Wasshammar wants to pass the guard but Griffin is defending well.
Griffin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wasshammar scores with a couple of nice shots.

Wasshammar lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Griffin tries to get to full guard but Wasshammar has control of the leg.
Wasshammar content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffin regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Wasshammar.
Wasshammar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wasshammar throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Griffin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Wasshammar postures up and lands a big shot to Griffin's brow.
Griffin wants to sweep here but Wasshammar controlling him for the moment.
Wasshammar connects with a couple of short punches.
Wasshammar keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Griffin's head.
Griffin tries to land a sweep but no joy.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wasshammar slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Griffin controls Wasshammar momentarily but Wasshammar frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Griffin uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Wasshammar.

Wasshammar sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Griffin looks for a takedown but Wasshammar sprawls well.
Wasshammar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Wasshammar throws a right and a left that Griffin avoids nicely.
Decent striking displayed by Griffin there.
Wasshammar on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Griffin throws a leg kick which misses Wasshammar's front leg but catches the back leg as Wasshammar tries to avoid it.
Wasshammar ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Griffin moves away.

Horrible takedown by Griffin or perhaps it was just good defense by Wasshammar which made him look bad.

Wasshammar throws a hook but Griffin blocks it.
Donk. Griffin catches Wasshammar right on the button with a cross.
Griffin throws a nice outside leg kick.

Wasshammar lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Griffin at a distance.

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Griffin - that will leave a mark!

Griffin works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Griffin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wasshammar pinned against the cage. Wasshammar gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Thor Wasshammar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Griffin.
Wasshammar throws a good cross that connects.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wasshammar avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Wasshammar seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Griffin tries to buck Wasshammar off but Wasshammar is having none of it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Thor Wasshammar will probably get the nod.

Wasshammar shoots in looking for a takedown but Griffin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wasshammar's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Griffin throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Griffin gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

and Griffin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Griffin motions for Wasshammar to come forward. Griffin throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Wasshammar throws a one two combo.
Griffin paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wasshammar ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Griffin connects with a solid leg kick.
Wasshammar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Griffin tries to avoid it but Wasshammar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Griffin to the ground. Griffin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wasshammar uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Griffin.

Griffin throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Thor Wasshammar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Wasshammar lands a slapping body shot.

Griffin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wasshammar.
Wasshammar moves into range and connects with a jab.
Wasshammar bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Griffin's head.
Griffin has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Griffin there as he acknowledges the shot.

Griffin has a takedown stuffed.
Thor Wasshammar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Griffin.
Griffin shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wasshammar as he avoids it easily.
Griffin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Griffin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Griffin fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Wasshammar is out of range.
Wasshammar stuffs the takedown attempt from Griffin. Griffin gets slowly back to his feet.
Griffin swings widly with a right hand
and Wasshammar makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Thor Wasshammar showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wasshammar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
