The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peterson drives through with a takedown into Spencer's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Peterson trying to move into half guard but instead Spencer has managed to sweep!
Peterson wants to hit a switch here but Spencer passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Peterson there!

Spencer goes for an armbar but Peterson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Peterson.
Peterson won't allow Spencer to sweep him here.
Peterson wants to pass the guard but Spencer is keeping the position.
Spencer tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Peterson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Peterson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Spencer throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Peterson pushes down on Spencer's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Peterson is working for a submission of some sort.
Peterson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Spencer is trying to get back to full guard.

Spencer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Peterson.
Peterson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Spencer won't allow Peterson to pass to mount.
Spencer is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Spencer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Peterson is working away from the top position though.

Peterson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Peterson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mikey Peterson.
Peterson wants to clinch.
Horrible takedown by Spencer or perhaps it was just good defense by Peterson which made him look bad.

Peterson darts in and clinches Spencer up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spencer takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Peterson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Spencer!

Spencer takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Oh Spencer is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A big shot lands for Peterson! That's hurt Spencer! Will he recover? Peterson fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
