PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Liam McManus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsurin Mizu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitsurin Mizu will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Liam McManus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mitsurin Mizu!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McManus shoots in and drives through. Mizu sprawls well.
McManus shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mizu defends it nicely.
Mizu's coach down at Morbid Conditioning School $125 was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Mizu's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

McManus takes the fight into the clinch.
McManus tries to score a body lock takedown but Mizu shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Liam McManus. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McManus has clasped his hands together around Mizu's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

McManus has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Mizu fails to land with a series of punches.
Mizu stalks McManus and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into McManus's face. McManus staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mizu swings for the body but McManus moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McManus shoots for a takedown but Mizu saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McManus darts in looking for a takedown but Mizu gets double underhooks and turns McManus into the cage.
Mizu using the Thai plumb to throw knees but McManus has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Mizu tries to land knees in the clinch but McManus avoids the damage to the body.
McManus has Mizu pushed against the cage.
Mizu looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
McManus is trying to drag Mizu to the mat but Mizu just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mizu is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. McManus is defending well for now.
McManus tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Mizu trying to stall but McManus improves his position.
A frustrated look appears on Mizu's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mizu is looking to control McManus's arms but McManus gets an underhook and turns him. Now Mizu has his back to the cage.
Mizu is trying to slow the pace down but that's a couple of times in a row that he's tried to get underhooks and McManus has denied him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mizu is trying to break the clinch but McManus has him pressed against the cage.

McManus pulls guard.
McManus is adopting a defensive guard.
Mizu throws a strike but McManus rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
McManus pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mizu is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McManus controls from within his opponent's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Liam McManus.
McManus takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

McManus scores with a takedown into Mizu's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mizu is trying to control the position but McManus postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McManus is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mizu steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! McManus is out on his feet! Mizu sets himself and nearly takes McManus's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Mitsurin Mizu!
