Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Randall Hexton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Randall Hexton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, James Briggs!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Peter Branson and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Briggs shoots and misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Briggs misses with a takedown
and Hexton counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Briggs gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Hexton counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hexton definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Randall Hexton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Briggs.
Briggs fails with the takedown
and Hexton counters with a one-two to the body.
Briggs shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hexton as he jumps to the side.
Briggs throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hexton sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Briggs throws a lazy uppercut
and Hexton counters with a right hand to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Briggs is defended easily by Hexton.

James Briggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circling - Briggs throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Briggs moves to clinch but Hexton breaks away
and Hexton counters with a left and a right that stings Briggs.
Briggs has his takedown stuffed
and Briggs takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Briggs changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hexton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hexton is looking for a sweep.
Briggs in side control lands a decent elbow.
Hexton is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Hexton is trying to get back to half guard.
Hexton sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Briggs throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hexton to regain full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hexton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Briggs is aware though and is defending well.
Briggs looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Briggs trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Hexton is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Briggs defends well.

Briggs avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Hexton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Briggs doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Briggs manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hexton could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Briggs content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Briggs is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Hexton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hexton pulls Briggs in close to his closed guard and prevents Briggs from doing any damage or advancing position.

Hexton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Briggs is aware though and is defending well.
Briggs postures up and lands a big shot to Hexton's brow.

Hexton looking for a guillotine here but Briggs defends easily.
Briggs chips away with some ground and pound.
Briggs landing with the ground and pound.
Briggs lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Hexton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Briggs is aware though and is defending well.
Briggs with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Briggs is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.


Hexton is rocked!
Briggs loads up on a big left hand. Hexton felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Briggs looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Hexton can't hide his disappointment, as Briggs celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Briggs!
