Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hung Odonnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeffrey Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hung Odonnell has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Hung Odonnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeffrey Hughes!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hughes is defended easily by Odonnell.

Hughes closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Odonnell's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hughes postures up.
Hughes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Odonnell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hughes is controlling him.
Hughes throws a big elbow that misses.
Hughes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jeffrey Hughes wasn't active enough on the ground.

Odonnell darts in and clinches Hughes up against the cage.
Hughes lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Hughes blocks an elbow strike.
Odonnell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hughes smiles and moves away.

Hughes's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hughes digs a right hand into Odonnell's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Odonnell's gas tank.
Odonnell wants to take the fight to the mat but Hughes manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Hughes is trying to trip Odonnell. He has hold of a leg but Odonnell is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hughes persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Hughes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Odonnell will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Odonnell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Hughes stands and steps away. Odonnell gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
A combination from Hughes does no damage.

Hughes scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hughes controls the position.
Odonnell prevents Hughes from moving into mount.

Hughes goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Odonnell rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hughes's guard! Nice work there by Odonnell!
Hughes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Odonnell is one step ahead there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hughes is looking to stand up but Odonnell isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hughes looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeffrey Hughes dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hughes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Hughes closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Hughes wants to stand but Odonnell has his arm trapped.
Hughes postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Odonnell can't do much from the bottom here.
Odonnell sneaks back into half guard.
Hughes is thwarting Odonnell's attempts to control the position.
Hughes stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Odonnell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hughes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hughes throws an elbow that misses. Odonnell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hughes's guard. Nice move by Odonnell!
Hughes wants to stand up but Odonnell is controlling him.
Odonnell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hughes controlling Odonnell's posture.
Hughes wants to sweep here but Odonnell controlling him for the moment.
Hughes is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Odonnell dives into side control.

Odonnell has hold of Hughes's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Hughes seems comfortable defending it but Odonnell has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Hughes is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Hughes is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Odonnell couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hung Odonnell!
