Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paul Huerta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Huerta to score an easy takedown into full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Huerta wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Huerta is really struggling to control Smith but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Huerta controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Smith had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Huerta defends it easily.

Huerta drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Huerta jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Huerta content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Huerta defends well.

Huerta got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Huerta has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted.

Smith has momentary wrist control but Huerta slips an elbow through the middle.

Huerta is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Huerta drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Huerta jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Huerta has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Huerta avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Huerta doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Huerta manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Huerta wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Smith is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Huerta lands a couple of elbows.
Huerta connects with a couple of short punches.
Huerta postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Huerta can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Huerta working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Smith's head.
Huerta wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Huerta thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Huerta is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Huerta has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Smith is proving hard to escape from.
Huerta wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Huerta with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Huerta stands up over Smith, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Huerta drops back looking for a leg! Smith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smith manages to kick Huerta off! Huerta jumps back into Smith's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Huerta's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Smith looking for a guillotine here but Huerta defends easily.
Smith should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Huerta trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Huerta dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Smith gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Huerta is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Huerta lands a nice short elbow.

Huerta is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Smith sees it coming and defends easily.
Smith tries to roll over but Huerta keeps him under control.

Huerta is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Smith has managed to free his arm - good work.

Smith is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Huerta is tapping! Great win for Smith!
