PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Francis Hampton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deshawn Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deshawn Jackson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Francis Hampton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Deshawn Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackson moves into the clinch successfully.
Hampton stalling against the cage.
Hampton tries for a takedown but Jackson manages to get underhooks.

Jackson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Jackson manages to end up in side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Hampton tries to buck Jackson off but Jackson is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Hampton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jackson trying to control the action but Hampton is working from the bottom.

Jackson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jackson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jackson looks winded!

Hampton holds on to Jackson's head and controls the position momentarily.
Jackson working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Jackson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
You can see the frustration on Hampton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hampton tries to improve position but can't.

Hampton sneaks out the side door and pushes Jackson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jackson enables Hampton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jackson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Hampton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hampton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Jackson is working an open guard so Hampton takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hampton missing with a left hand there. Jackson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hampton tries to clinch up but Jackson circles away and keeps his distance.
We've been informed that Jackson has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Hampton misses with a body shot.

Jackson has Hampton up against the cage in a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hampton takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Hampton changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jackson fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Jackson lands with a cross.
Jackson throws a right and a left that both miss.

Jackson drives through and clinches with Hampton against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hampton takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Hampton is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Jackson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Francis Hampton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jackson is trying to trip Hampton. He has hold of a leg but Hampton is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Jackson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Deshawn Jackson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Jackson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hampton prevents Jackson from getting back to his feet.

Hampton stands up and waves to Jackson to follow him.
Jackson is breathing heavily.
Hampton tries to clinch up.

Jackson is looking to stand up but Hampton isn't so interested in that idea.
Hampton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jackson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hampton thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Hampton stands up from Jackson's guard - Hampton perhaps looking for a knockout.

Hampton rushes Jackson and presses him up against the cage.

Jackson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hampton trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Hampton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hampton has a takedown stuffed.
Deshawn Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hampton fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jackson to the ground. Hampton is now in Jackson's guard.

Hampton throws an elbow that misses. Jackson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hampton's guard. Nice move by Jackson!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jackson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hampton is pulling down on Jackson's head to control his posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Hampton throws a head kick but Jackson moves out of range.
Hampton throws a leg kick which misses Jackson's front leg but catches the back leg as Jackson tries to avoid it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jackson. Hampton does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hampton connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Hampton throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hampton fails in his attempt to clinch.

Jackson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hampton's half guard.
Jackson moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Hampton.
Jackson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hampton manages to get back to half guard.

Hampton keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hampton is trying to stand.
Hampton avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jackson.

Jackson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hampton's head.

Hampton is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jackson wants to take a breather but Hampton is having none of it.

Hampton is staying active underneath Jackson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hampton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hampton taking some punishment here, with Jackson in his half guard.
Jackson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Hampton tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Jackson is trying to control the action in half guard but Hampton is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Hampton makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hampton.
Jackson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Jackson wants to control from the top but Hampton keeps moving.

Hampton controls Jackson momentarily but Jackson frees himself.
Hampton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Hampton has Jackson pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hampton is looking to stand up but Jackson isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Francis Hampton just wasn't active enough.
Jackson lands a right hook to the body.
Jackson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Jackson feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Hampton's calf.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jackson buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Deshawn Jackson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jackson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
