The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gemson fails with a takedown attempt.

Strickland forces Gemson back against the cage and clinches.
Strickland is trying to pull guard but Gemson has him pressed against the cage.

Strickland breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Strickland is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Strickland could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Gemson has taken the fight to the clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gemson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Strickland is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Gemson pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Gemson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Strickland swivels and escapes.

Gemson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Gemson feints and as Strickland raises his hands in defense, Gemson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gemson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Strickland looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Strickland working for a triangle but Gemson defends it easily.
Strickland is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gemson wants to get up but he can't break Strickland's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Strickland has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gemson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Strickland manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gemson manages to get himself to full guard.

Gemson is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Strickland rolls with it to try and escape but Gemson cranks on the arm and Strickland is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
