PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dayan Taveras (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kanji Inoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kanji Inoki was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dayan Taveras!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kanji Inoki!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taveras swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Taveras definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Inoki.
Taveras throws a series of punches but Inoki avoids them all with ease.
Taveras lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Inoki circles away quickly and effectively.
Taveras will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Taveras looks to score with a jab to the body but Inoki is just out of range.

Inoki is pushing down on Taveras's leg trying to pass to half guard. Taveras is fighting to maintain full guard but Inoki has managed to sneak the leg through.

That has opened up Kanji Inoki's cut even more.
Inoki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Inoki throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Taveras was covering up waiting for the punch and Inoki finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Kanji Inoki has got the better of the ground game so far.

Inoki thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Taveras is looking to stand up but Inoki isn't so interested in that idea.
Taveras can't keep his opponent in guard - Inoki advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Taveras displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Inoki.
Inoki shoots in looking for a takedown but Taveras manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Inoki's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Dayan Taveras seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Taveras scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
No joy there for Taveras, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Inoki shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Taveras but Taveras pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Dayan Taveras has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kanji Inoki.
Inoki walks into a straight right hand from Taveras.
Taveras fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Inoki tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Taveras paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Taveras stuffs the takedown attempt from Inoki. Inoki gets slowly back to his feet.

Taveras leaves Inoki with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Inoki takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Taveras moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Good exchange - Taveras coming out on top.


The cut above Kanji Inoki's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Taveras fails to land with a series of punches.
Inoki walks into a left hand.
Inoki get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Inoki stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Taveras runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dayan Taveras!
