PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between DJ Kick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vlad Dracol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, DJ Kick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vlad Dracol!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kick misses with a double jab
and Dracol counters with a body kick that stops Kick in his tracks momentarily.
Kick fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kick looks to land a combination but Dracol avoids it well.
Kick throws a one two combo.
Kick throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kick throws a right and a left that both miss.
Dracol slips under a jab from Kick.
Kick throws a body kick that misses.

Dracol bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kick is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Kick is breathing heavily.
Dracol wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kick keeps working.
Dracol is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Dracol with the ground and pound but Kick regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Kick makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Kick throws a head kick that misses.

Dracol closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kick to the mat! Kick manages to get full guard.
Dracol engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Dracol cracks Kick with a solid left hand.
Kick wants to stand and escape but Dracol is having none of it.
Kick can't keep his opponent in guard - Dracol advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Dracol not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kick is trying to stand.
Dracol perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dracol tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kick knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dracol is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kick sees it coming and defends easily.
Dracol is controlling the pace.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Kick is staying active underneath Dracol, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Vlad Dracol.
Kick fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Dracol looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
No joy there for Kick, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Dracol counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kick!
Kick is not content to let Dracol control the position.
Kick taking punishment in the form of punches.
Dracol lands an elbow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Dracol looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Kick is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Kick is being controlled here.
Dracol really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kick. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dracol tries to move into full mount but can't pass Kick's legs.

Dracol tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kick is trying to escape the position but Dracol is controlling the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dracol lands some shots froms side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kick throws a head kick that misses
and Dracol counters with a straight right hand.
Sloppy strikes from Kick. Those never looked like landing.
Kick tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dracol misses with a takedown attempt - Kick sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Dracol has managed to clinch.
Dracol is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kick to keep the fight standing.
Kick is defending well against a takedown attempt.
DJ Kick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vlad Dracol.

Dracol pulls guard.
Kick trying to stand up but can't free himself from Dracol's guard.

Dracol manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Dracol just leaning against Kick, taking a breather.
Dracol has Kick pressed against the cage, preventing Kick from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Kick gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dracol.

Dracol gets control of Kick's arms and successfully pulls guard. Dracol will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Dracol has his foot on Kick's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kick works his way back into a safe position though.
Kick wants to get up but he can't break Dracol's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Kick postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dracol is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kick, into his guard.
Kick wants to stand and escape but Dracol is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kick can't keep his opponent in guard - Dracol advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Kick tries to kick Dracol off but Dracol keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Dracol wants to pass the guard but Kick is defending well.
Dracol is taking a breather. Kick says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Vlad Dracol wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kick takes a kick to the side of the head.
Dracol shoots in but Kick avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dracol dives in and grabs Kick's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kick pushes down on Dracol's head and hops out.
A punch combination from Kick misses.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Dracol, right into the meat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kick throws a head kick but Dracol moves out of range.

Vlad Dracol showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A head kick by Kick misses
enabling Dracol to counter with a crisp jab.
Dracol lands a slapping body shot.
DJ Kick is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kick throws a head kick that misses

and Dracol holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kick is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Dracol pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for DJ Kick. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dracol breaks the clinch.
Kick rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dracol moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dracol throws a right and a left that Kick avoids nicely.

Dracol closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kick's guard.
Kick can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dracol controls the pace.

Kick wants to stand up but Dracol is controlling him.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Vlad Dracol hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Dracol tries to bum rush Kick with a series of wild strikes but Kick uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Dracol has Kick up against the cage in a clinch.

Dracol closes the distance and clinches up with Kick, looking for a takedown. Dracol pushes Kick against the cage but Kick circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kick takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Kick slaps away a takedown attempt from Dracol, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A bone on bone clash there as Dracol blocks the leg kick.
Vlad Dracol seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Dracol holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Dracol misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Kick.
Dracol goes for a takedown attempt but Kick pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Dracol tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kick paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Kick is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dracol is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kick to the mat. Kick regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kick is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Dracol wants to control from the top but Kick keeps moving.

Dracol decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kick, up you get!
Dracol drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
DJ Kick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kick gets caught flat footed, as Dracol shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dracol wants to control from the top but Kick keeps moving.

Kick wriggles free and stands up.
Kick throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dracol clinches.

Dracol pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
DJ Kick has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Vlad Dracol is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kick gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vlad Dracol comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dracol has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
