The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Musashi has his takedown stuffed

and Van Der Vaart counters by clinching up.
Van Der Vaart stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Van Der Vaart has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Musashi uses from the top position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Van Der Vaart wants to stand up but Musashi is controlling him.
Van Der Vaart seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Musashi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Musashi works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Van Der Vaart pushes Musashi off but Musashi dives into side control.

Musashi working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Musashi works his way into full mount!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Van Der Vaart can do anything to dispel that myth.
Van Der Vaart can't escape the position.
Musashi lands a heavy elbow.

It looks like Luc Van Der Vaart has been cut.

Musashi jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Van Der Vaart manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Musashi wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Van Der Vaart, who protects the arm well.

Musashi works to advance to full mount. Van Der Vaart defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Musashi has control of Van Der Vaart's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Van Der Vaart regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Van Der Vaart is trying desperately to improve position.
Van Der Vaart looks winded!

Musashi is landing with some decent strikes but Van Der Vaart is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Van Der Vaart is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Musashi locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Van Der Vaart is forced to tap!
