PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Nash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sloppy Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sloppy Joe was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Nash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sloppy Joe!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Joe scores with a takedown into Nash's guard.
Nash avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Joe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Joe wants to control from the top but Nash keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Joe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Nash is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nash knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Joe on the ground.
Joe prevents Nash from getting back to his feet.
Nash utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Joe tries to bum rush Nash with a series of wild strikes but Nash uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Joe doesn't manage to clinch there - Nash circles away.
Nash misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Joe avoids the head kick by Nash.

Joe rushes Nash and presses him up against the cage.
Joe wants a takedown but no success here.
Nash prevents the takedown attempt.

Nash breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Joe is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Nash pulls him back up using the underhooks.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sloppy Joe will probably get the nod.

Nash shoots for a double leg takedown but Joe sprawls well. He's pushed Nash's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nash throws a nice looking combination but Joe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Joe tries to close the distance and clinch but Nash swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nash moves forwards but Joe connects with a nice, crisp jab.

BOOM! Joe connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Joe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nash swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Joe drops down looking for an ankle pick but Nash pulls his leg out and moves away.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Joe is on top in guard.

Sloppy Joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Nash smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Nash moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Joe has taken the fight to the clinch.

Nash decides to pull guard.

Joe cracks Nash with a solid left hand.

Joe postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Joe stands up over Nash, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Horrible takedown by Joe or perhaps it was just good defense by Nash which made him look bad.

Nash lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Nash gets underhooks to prevent Joe's takedown attempt.
Joe's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

No joy there for Joe, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nash lands with a kick to the temple. Joe shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Nash avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Joe is trying to drag Nash to the mat but Nash just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Nash throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Joes head.
Joe has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Nash avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Joe lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nash walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Joe shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nash's guard.

Nash scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Nash lands a left hand that snaps the head of Joe backwards.

Nash fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Joe has Nash pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Nash manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Joe uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nash.
Sloppy Joe is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Nash tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Joe swivels and escapes.
Joe is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Sloppy Joe.
I've got Joe winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
