PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between dan g (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

g changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Santos looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
g wants to lay and pray for a moment but Santos keeps working.
Santos is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

g decides to stand back up. g steps back and let's Santos get back to his feet.
g shoots in for a takedown but Santos shows good takedown defense.
g misses with a wild body shot.

and g counters with a nice double leg into side control. Santos won't be happy with that.
Santos is letting g control him for a moment.
Santos manages to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

g is looking for a kimura but Santos is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for g to get the leverage.
g is looking to take a break and control but Santos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Santos regains full guard. Nicely done.

Santos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but g can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Santos manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. g manages to get himself to full guard.
g throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
g on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if g tries to get out of the position.

Santos is fighting to break g's control of his arms but g is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Santos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. g swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Santos works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Santos is working for a kimura but g is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
g is looking for a sweep. Santos is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
g is breathing heavily.
Santos looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
g is holding on to half guard well.

Santos looking for a submission but g manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

g looking to hit a scissor sweep but Santos is one step ahead there.
Santos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
g might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
g is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
g wants to control but Santos passes easily into half guard.

Santos is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. g doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Santos.
g makes his way to full guard. A much better position for g.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Santos is looking to work some ground and pound but g has wrist control.
Santos wants to stand but g is controlling his posture from full guard.
g wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Santos is now in half guard.
g missing with punches from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that dan g will probably get the nod.
That's time! g's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Santos misses with a head kick.
g takes a kick to the side of the head.

g clinches.
g can't find room to land a body shot as Santos controls the action.
Santos is trying to break the clinch but g has him pressed against the cage.
g tries for a takedown. No joy.
Santos connects with a nasty looking knee right to g's face.
Santos misses with a knee to the head.
Santos doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Santos throws a punch but it's blocked by g.
Santos tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
g is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

g manages to break the clinch.

and g counters with a takedown into side control.
Santos tries to buck g off but g is having none of it.
Santos takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Santos is breathing heavily.
Santos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but g wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

g wants to control but Santos is keeping him busy.
Santos gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
g performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

g wants to work for an arm triangle but Santos is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
g seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Santos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Santos moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
g looking to sit in guard and control but Santos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Santos prevents g from getting back to his feet.
Santos would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
dan g overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Santos advances position into side control!

Santos is working to tighten is grip on g's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. g has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Santos is really squeezing tight and eventually g passes out! Santos breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
