PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dre Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikko Sinkila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dre Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mikko Sinkila!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith takes the fight into the clinch.

Sinkila escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Smith throws a head kick but Sinkila moves out of range.

Smith clinches up with Sinkila and pushes him back against the cage.
Smith prevents a takedown attempt there.

Sinkila decides to pull guard.

Sinkila looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sinkila trying to control the position.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Sinkila is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith with a flurry of punches that miss.
Sinkila avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith chips away with some ground and pound.
Sinkila seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Sinkila working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Smith drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sinkila manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Smith has Sinkila in his guard.

Smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sinkila defends well.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sinkila doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sinkila manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Smith looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Sinkila passes into half guard.

Sinkila is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smith defends it well.
Sinkila not doing much here.

Sinkila stands up and beckons Smith to join him on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sinkila has his takedown stuffed
and Smith counters with a one-two to the body.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Smith throws a looping overhand right but Sinkila ducks down to avoid it.
Smith goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

and Sinkila counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Smith is breathing heavily.

Sinkila gets tackled into the cage by Smith. Smith maintains the clinch.
Sinkila jumps guard but Smith turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Dre Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mikko Sinkila.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sinkila tries for a takedown but Smith manages to get underhooks.

Sinkila jumps guard.
Sinkila is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.
Smith throws a strike but Sinkila rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sinkila avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sinkila wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smith has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Sinkila is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dre Smith dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Smith misses with a wild combination.
Sinkila shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dre Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sinkila.
Dre Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Smith darts in and clinches Sinkila up against the cage.
Sinkila drops down looking for an ankle pick but Smith pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dre Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mikko Sinkila.

Smith has taken the fight to the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Smith is pressed up against the cage. Sinkila has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Smith down to the mat. Smith avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Smith misses with a kick to the body
and Sinkila counters with a stiff right hand.
Smith listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Smith moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Sinkila misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sinkila is breathing heavily.
Sinkila takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

and Smith counters with a one-two to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Smith darts in and clinches Sinkila up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sinkila is trying to pull guard but Smith has him pressed against the cage.

Smith manages to break the clinch.
Sinkila showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Smith.
Smith scores with a crisp jab that stopped Sinkila in his tracks.


Sinkila is rocked!
Sinkila gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Smith gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Sinkila is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dre Smith!
