Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Akeen Coker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Grover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grover has chosen Ran-D & Zatox - Hectic as his entrance music. Marcelo Grover is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcelo Grover!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coker throws a poor cross that misses
and Grover makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Coker misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Grover.
Grover checks a leg kick.
Grover connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Coker misses with a leg kick
and Grover counters with a stiff right hand.
Coker throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Grover throws a series of strikes that have Coker backpedaling.
Coker throws a leg kick that is checked
and Grover counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Coker swings away with a body shot that misses
and Grover counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Coker thinking.
A lazy left from Grover finds it's target.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Grover on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

and Coker takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Grover counters with a three punch combo that has Coker backing up. Coker nods at Grover to acknowledge the strikes.
Grover lands with a good body shot.

Grover lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Coker backs up against the cage.

Grover pushes Coker up against the cage in a clinch.
Coker tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Grover's elbow.
Grover avoids a wild elbow strike from Coker.

Grover breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Coker walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

and Grover counters with a left and a right that stings Coker.
Coker does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Grover lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Coker throws a body kick that misses.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Grover catches Coker with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Grover lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Grover tries to clinch up but Coker circles away and keeps his distance.

Grover scores with a takedown into Coker's guard.
Coker wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Grover is now in half guard.
Grover tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Coker is looking for a sweep. Grover is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Grover thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Coker's head.
Grover prevents Coker from improving his position.
Grover is controlling the pace.
Coker keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Grover is thwarting Coker's attempts to control the position.

Coker is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Grover pulls his head out easily.
Grover takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Coker trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Grover lands a heavy elbow.
Coker is bucking up trying to escape but Grover cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Coker keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Coker tries to lock up and control but Grover gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcelo Grover dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice straight punches there by Grover. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Grover.

Coker throws a leg kick but Grover sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Grover jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

and Grover counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Marcelo Grover is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Coker walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Akeen Coker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grover pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Coker back to the cage. Grover follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The fight stays on the outside here - Grover looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Grover checks the leg kick nicely there.
Grover lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Coker takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Coker throws a low kick but Grover moves out of range easily.

Coker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Grover seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Grover is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Coker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Grover is working away from the top position though.

Coker tries to roll over but Grover keeps him under control.
Grover is taking a breather. Coker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Marcelo Grover showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Coker has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Coker.
Coker moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Grover is working the combinations to good effect here.

Coker pivots, looking for a leg kick but Grover is out of range and Coker settles back down.

Marcelo Grover comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Grover has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Marcelo Grover really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that KAISER logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
