PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Muhammad Ali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kent Roger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ali kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Rocky Theme. Kent Roger has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Muhammad Ali!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kent Roger!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Phil Schofield and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roger throws a quick inside leg kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Roger is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ali gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Our sources have told us that Ali has been working on his elbows in the gym.
Roger misses with a knee to the head.

Roger breaks from the clinch.
Ali misses the shot to the body.
Ali tries to close the distance and clinch but Roger swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A left and a right from Ali both land. Nice combination.
Roger has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Some bone on bone action there as Ali checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Roger shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Roger is pressing down on Ali's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ali is holding on for now.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Roger in particular looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kent Roger was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ali stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Ali has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Roger finds it's way round the side to connect with Ali's head.
Roger connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Roger bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Roger is trying to get an arm triangle but Ali is defending well.
Ali manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Roger is trying to work for a kimura but Ali is defending well.
Roger perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Roger wants to pass the guard but Ali is defending well.
Ali is trying to stand.
Roger takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Roger seems to be looking for submissions.
Still in half guard, Roger seems content to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ali won't allow Roger to pass to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Roger in particular looking to stall.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kent Roger hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ali fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Roger tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ali swivels and escapes.
Ali misses with a wild body shot.
Ali scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Roger shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ali as he avoids it easily.
Muhammad Ali has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kent Roger.
Roger stalks Ali and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ali's face. Ali staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Roger scoring well with a low kick there.
Ali lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Roger bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Ali tries to bench press Roger off him but Roger keeps the position.
Roger wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ali keeps working.

Roger tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Roger has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ali takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kent Roger dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Ali tries to keep at a distance but Roger has taken the fight into the clinch.

Roger breaks from the clinch.

Roger decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Well, if Roger is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Roger not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Roger content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Roger's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kent Roger.
Ali scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Ali throws a big shot that misses.
Roger has his takedown stuffed
enabling Ali to counter with a crisp jab.
Roger takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Ali throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Roger.
Roger dives in for a single leg takedown but Ali sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Roger breaks the clinch.
Ali throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Muhammad Ali is winning the standup battle so far.
A big left from Ali misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Roger.
Muhammad Ali has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kent Roger.
Ali looks to land a combination but Roger avoids it well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Roger avoids the body shot from Ali.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Roger throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ali counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Roger fails with a takedown attempt.
Roger changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ali tries to avoid it but Roger manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ali to the ground. Ali escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Roger is breathing heavily.

Roger closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Roger wants to control but Ali is keeping him busy.
Roger takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Ali wants to get back to full guard.
Ali keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Roger decides to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Roger walks into a stiff left hand from Ali.
Roger shoots in looking for a takedown. Ali tries to sprawl out of it but Roger keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ali manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Roger tries to land a leg kick but Ali saw it coming and moves away.
Roger misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A lazy left from Ali finds it's target.
That kick from Roger tenderised Ali's leg. Ali is trying to keep his angry face on.
Roger steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ali.
Muhammad Ali is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ali rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Roger moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Roger throws a hook to the side of Ali's head but Ali sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Roger closes the distance and clinches.
Roger is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ali gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ali avoiding damage as Roger throws knees to the body.

Roger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ali.

Ali drops Roger with a big left hand and mounts him. Roger is in big trouble!


Roger is rocked!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Ali! Roger is hurt baaadly! Ali is firing away with more strikes - Roger is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Muhammad Ali!
Our winner, Muhammad Ali, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
