Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kolo Cornelius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Souza!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza with a poor takedown
and Cornelius counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


It looks like Jake Souza has been cut.

Souza dives in and scores a takedown into Cornelius's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Souza tries to free his leg and advance position but Cornelius is retaining full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kolo Cornelius has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Souza.

Souza throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Souza tries to land knees in the clinch but Cornelius avoids the damage to the body.

Cornelius escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cornelius stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cornelius wants it to stay on the feet.
Souza shoots in for a takedown but Cornelius shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We've been told by Cornelius's head coaches at Combat Zone [15 Elite & Sauna that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Cornelius takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Souza throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Cornelius lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Cornelius scores with a knee to the head.
Souza goes for a takedown in the clinch but Cornelius prevents it.
Souza has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Cornelius is pressed up against the cage. Souza has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cornelius down to the mat. Cornelius avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Souza is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cornelius pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Cornelius scores with a shot to the side of Souza's head.
Souza wants to break free but Cornelius has control.
Cornelius crunches a lovely knee into Souza's ribcage.
The referee calls for Cornelius to work.
Cornelius lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Souza backwards.
Cornelius works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Souza tries to pull guard but Cornelius forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Cornelius manages to break the clinch.

Jake Souza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cornelius closes the distance and pushes Souza back into the cage.

Souza misses with a takedown attempt - Cornelius sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Cornelius lands a big uppercut and Souza crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Souza looks OK. Cornelius waves Souza back to his feet!


Souza is rocked!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Cornelius moves into the clinch successfully.
Souza is still on wobbly legs! Can Cornelius finish him?

Cornelius breaks the clinch.
Souza seems to have recovered his senses.
Souza ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cornelius moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kolo Cornelius dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jake Souza's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


BAM! Cornelius delivers a spinning backfist that drops Souza like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Spinning Backfist). Kolo Cornelius!
Kolo Cornelius took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
