PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Samuraimo Rassi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Last Dragon. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Samuraimo Rassi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rassi walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Nice sprawl there from Rassi as Wilson shoots in.
Wilson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Wilson jabs Rassi right on the nose. Rassi blinks but takes it well.
Wilson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Rassi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Rassi has been working on his boxing with his coaches at COBRA-KAI. DO-JO in the buildup to the fight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wilson wants to clinch
and Rassi counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Rassi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wilson's coach down at Me Myself and I Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Wilson's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Wilson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rassi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wilson somewhat.

Wilson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Wilson blocks the elbow strike.

Rassi closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Wilson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rassi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rassi takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Wilson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Rassi slaps away a takedown attempt from Wilson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Samuraimo Rassi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Don Wilson.
Wilson looks to throw the jab but Rassi is out of range.
Wilson wants to clinch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Wilson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Wilson has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Wilson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Rassi is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Wilson is defending well for now.

Wilson is trying to break the clinch but Rassi is controlling him.
Rassi looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Rassi lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Wilson takes an elbow to the forehead.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wilson dodges an elbow strike from Rassi.

Rassi lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Rassi lands an uppercut.
Rassi lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Wilson backwards.
Rassi makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Rassi keeps control of Wilson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Wilson.

Wilson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Wilson throws a shot from downtown. Rassi moves away and avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Samuraimo Rassi will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Rassi tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Wilson avoids it.

Rassi moves forwards but Wilson connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Wilson lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Rassi takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Wilson misses the shot to the body.
Wilson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Wilson misses with a looping right.
Rassi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Wilson.
Wilson is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Samuraimo Rassi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Rassi tries to bum rush Wilson with a series of wild strikes but Wilson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Wilson is still on wobbly legs! Can Rassi finish him?
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Rassi just misses with a elbow thrown towards Wilson's brow.
Rassi lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Rassi lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Wilson to his knees! Rassi keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Samuraimo Rassi!
A less than humble Samuraimo Rassi misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
