PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Khan might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Nirvana - The Man Who Sold the World. The crowd seem to be enjoying Jackson's choice of entrance music: KRS One - Step Into a World. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Genghis Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khan looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Khan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jackson is keeping the position for now.
Khan is looking to work some ground and pound but Jackson has wrist control.
Khan makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Khan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jackson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jackson keeping moving, preventing Khan from controlling successfully.
Khan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jackson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Khan trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Khan wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving.
Khan throws a big elbow that misses.
Khan won't allow Jackson to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Khan trying to control but Jackson is working from the bottom.
Khan is really struggling to control Jackson but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Khan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Khan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jackson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jackson has escaped and now he's on top!

Khan has his foot on Jackson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jackson works his way back into a safe position though.

Khan has an active guard here but Jackson has managed to pass into half guard.
Jackson wants to stand up but Khan has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Khan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Khan is looking to improve his position.

Jackson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Khan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Jackson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Nice takedown defense from Jackson. No joy for Khan on that attempt.
Khan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Khan has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Khan throws a lazy right hand but Jackson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Jackson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Khan throws out the jab.

and Jackson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Jackson lands with a shot to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Khan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jackson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Khan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jackson swivels and escapes.
Jackson connects with a crisp jab.
Khan fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Genghis Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Khan throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Khan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jackson tries to avoid it but Khan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jackson to the ground. Jackson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jackson connects with a crisp jab.
Jackson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jackson wants it to stay on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Genghis Khan will probably get the nod.
That's time! Khan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Jackson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Khan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jackson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Genghis Khan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jackson is pushing Khan's head away, looking to escape. Khan manages to hold on to the position though.

Khan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jackson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Khan grinds an elbow into Jackson's temple.
The strikes coming from Khan are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Jackson gets back to half guard.
Jackson wants to control but Khan is keeping busy.
Khan is trying to control. Jackson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Khan with the ground and pound but Jackson uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Khan postures up and lands a big shot to Jackson's brow.

Khan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jackson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Khan has Jackson in his guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jackson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Khan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Jackson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Khan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jackson defends it easily.

Khan is looking for a triangle here but Jackson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Khan is looking to reverse the position.

Jackson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Khan is looking for a sweep.
Khan gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Khan slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Khan looking for subs off his back but Jackson has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genghis Khan dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Khan clobbers Jackson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
John Jackson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A looping hook to the body misses from Khan. Jackson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jackson keeps the fight on the outside.
Khan doesn't manage to clinch there - Jackson circles away.
Jackson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Khan.

Khan shoots in for a takedown but Jackson shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Genghis Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Khan tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Jackson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Jackson leaves Khan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Khan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jackson avoids it really well and circles away.

John Jackson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Khan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jackson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jackson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jackson!

Khan closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Khan pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jackson misses with a wild body shot.
John Jackson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jackson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Khan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Khan showed some decent athleticism there.
Jackson keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Jackson is trying to maintain the position but Khan is very close to passing his half guard.

Khan is looking to stall here but Jackson recovers full guard.
Khan looking to sit in guard and control but Jackson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Khan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jackson is aware though and is defending well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Genghis Khan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

John Jackson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Khan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
