PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Indigo Starseed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Alverez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aaron Alverez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Indigo Starseed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aaron Alverez!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Alyssa Summers and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Starseed changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alverez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Alverez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Starseed throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Starseed takes a little break here. Alverez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Starseed has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Starseed wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alverez keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Indigo Starseed wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Alverez with a poor takedown

and Starseed counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Starseed pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Alverez is keeping the position for now.
Starseed controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Starseed is looking to stand up but Alverez won't let him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Starseed trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Indigo Starseed just wasn't active enough.

Starseed shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Alverez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Starseed sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Starseed looking to pass the guard.

Starseed throwing strikes but missing.

Starseed gets a clinch.
Alverez tries for a takedown. No joy.

Starseed wants the takedown. Alverez is fighting it off but Starseed persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Alverez's guard against the cage.
Starseed slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Indigo Starseed just wasn't active enough.
A big left from Starseed misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Alverez enables Starseed to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Alverez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Starseed wants to pass the guard but Alverez is keeping the position.

Starseed stands up from Alverez's guard - Starseed perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Indigo Starseed dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Starseed shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Starseed seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alverez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Starseed thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Starseed wants to control but Alverez is keeping him busy.
Alverez is breathing heavily.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Starseed decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Starseed feints and as Alverez raises his hands in defense, Starseed changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Starseed tries to free his leg and advance position but Alverez is retaining full guard.
Alverez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Starseed.
Alverez keeping moving, preventing Starseed from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Indigo Starseed just wasn't active enough.
Starseed takes a swing at Alverez's ribcage but misses.

Starseed drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Starseed stands and throws Alverez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Starseed remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Starseed wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alverez keeps working.

Starseed advances to full mount.

Starseed stands up from mount. Strange move.

Starseed changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alverez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Starseed trying to control the position but Alverez is working away.
Starseed is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alverez can do to turn this around?

Starseed has hold of Alverez's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Alverez tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Starseed cranks the arm and Alverez screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Alverez, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Indigo Starseed!
