Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walter has chosen Black Sabbath - War Pigs as his entrance music. Shaun Johnson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shaun Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Walter!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walter slips under a jab from Johnson.
Johnson throws a right hand that Walter ducks under and follows up with a left that Walter also avoids with ease.
Walter tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Left hook, right uppercut from Walter.
Walter shoots for a double leg takedown but Johnson sprawls well. He's pushed Walter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Johnson feints and as Walter raises his hands in defense, Johnson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Johnson is looking to work some ground and pound but Walter has wrist control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Johnson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Walter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johnson has managed to get both his arms back between Walter's legs - danger averted.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Shaun Johnson.

Walter has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.
Walter will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Walter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Walter won't allow Johnson to sweep him here.

Johnson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Walter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Walter sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Johnson's guard.

Walter scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Walter is taking a breather. Johnson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Walter is keen to just control but Johnson is a slippery customer.

Johnson wants to improve his position but Walter is controlling well.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Johnson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Walter wants to free his trapped foot but Johnson is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Johnson takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shaun Johnson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Walter throws a sloppy head kick and Johnson moves out of range easily.
Johnson looks to land a right hand but Walter moved out of range.

Johnson throws a shot from downtown. Walter moves away and avoids it.
Walter throws a nice looking combination but Johnson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Johnson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Walter's hands.

Walter misses with a wild body shot.
Walter fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Johnson scores with a crisp jab that stopped Walter in his tracks.
Some bone on bone action there as Johnson checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Johnson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Walter, who protects the arm well.

Johnson is looking to take a break and control but Walter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Walter keeps working.

Walter tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Johnson unloads with some shots from mount but Walter bucks and avoids them well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Whack. That's a big, big shot from Johnson! Walter is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Shaun Johnson!
A relieved looking Shaun Johnson thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
