Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brian Coffey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnson Kovkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brian Coffey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Johnson Kovkov!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kovkov has Coffey up against the cage in a clinch.
Coffey is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Coffey manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Kovkov drops back looking for a leg! Coffey is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Coffey manages to kick Kovkov off! Kovkov jumps back into Coffey's guard.
Coffey thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Kovkov would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kovkov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Coffey striking off his back but it's not causing Kovkov any problems.
Coffey has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Coffey lands a couple of shots from the bottom.

Coffey is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Kovkov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kovkov pulls Coffey into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Coffey accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kovkov is working an open guard so Coffey takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Kovkov darts in and clinches Coffey up against the cage.
Kovkov lands an elbow inside that Coffey shrugs off.

Kovkov pulls guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Coffey's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Coffey working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Coffey lands a couple of decent looking shots.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Coffey accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kovkov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Coffey is one step ahead there.
Kovkov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Coffey. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Coffey stands up over Kovkov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Kovkov is trying to keep Coffey in close.

Kovkov looking for subs off his back but Coffey has passed one foot through into half guard.
Kovkov is trying to control but can't.
Kovkov looks winded!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kovkov has hold of Coffey's hands but Coffey slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Coffey is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kovkov avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Coffey.
Coffey passes into side control, despite Kovkov's attempt to control the position.

Coffey decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kovkov to his feet.

Kovkov shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Coffey is trying to defend but Kovkov finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coffey flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The fighters are battling for position here. Coffey manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Coffey striking off his back but it's not causing Kovkov any problems.
Coffey throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coffey throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Coffey dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Coffey moves into range and clinches up with Kovkov.
Kovkov gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Coffey.
Coffey wants to stall.

Coffey has picked Kovkov up - he's going for a ride! Coffey dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Coffey blocks the strikes from Kovkov.
Kovkov wants to get back to full guard.
Kovkov trying to control here.
Kovkov tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Coffey manages to move to mount!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kovkov wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Kovkov is breathing heavily.
Coffey doesn't have the hooks in and Kovkov manages to turn into his guard.
Coffey lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kovkov!
Kovkov tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kovkov looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Coffey is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Kovkov is tapping out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Brian Coffey!
