Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mauricio Austin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Gonzalez!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez throws a head kick that misses.
Austin shoots for a takedown but Gonzalez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Austin misses with a takedown
and Gonzalez counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Gonzalez moves into the clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is trying to trip Austin. He has hold of a leg but Austin is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gonzalez persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Austin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gonzalez tries to free his leg and advance position but Austin is retaining full guard.
Gonzalez told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Austin is trying to control the position but Gonzalez postures up.
Gonzalez throws a big right hand that misses.

Austin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gonzalez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Gonzalez slips nicely into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gonzalez trying to control the action but Austin is working from the bottom.

Gonzalez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gonzalez postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Austin to stand up.

Gonzalez has closed the distance and engaged Austin in a clinch.
Austin has Gonzalez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gonzalez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Austin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gonzalez pulls guard successfully.
Austin throws a big elbow that misses.
Austin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gonzalez on the ground.

Gonzalez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Austin!

Gonzalez has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Austin! Can he survive? No! He's out! Gonzalez gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
