The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Shepherd counters with a big head kick but Matthews shrugs it off.
Shepherd looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Matthews lands a glancing blow to the side of Shepherd's head.
Shepherd moves to clinch but Matthews breaks away
and Matthews counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

It looks like Layne Shepherd has been cut.
Shepherd gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Matthews.
Shepherd checks a leg kick.
Matthews looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Matthews throws a lazy body kick
and Shepherd counters with an inside leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Matthews tries a low kick but Shepherd avoids it.
Shepherd drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Matthews really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Matthews connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Shepherd covering up! Matthews comes in with a big uppercut and Shepherd goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.
