Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Johns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Disco Stu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Johns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Disco Stu!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johns tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stu swivels and escapes.
A big left from Stu misses.
Johns misses with the combination.
Johns darts in looking for a takedown but Stu gets double underhooks and turns Johns into the cage.
Johns tries to break the clinch but Stu is controlling the position.

Johns pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Stu changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Johns is defended easily by Stu.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Johns. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johns ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stu moves away.
A jab lands there for Stu.
Stu scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
A combination from Johns does no damage.

Stu misses with a hook. Johns ducked under it nicely.
Johns will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Stu throws a lazy right hand but Johns sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Disco Stu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johns shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stu defends it nicely.
Disco Stu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Johns moves away from the strike by Stu.

A big right from Stu misses.
Stu fails to land with a series of punches.

Johns has taken the fight to the clinch.

Johns jumps into guard, dragging Stu to the mat.
Johns is controlling Stu's posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Johns is on top in guard.
Johns is pushing down on Stu's leg trying to pass to half guard. Stu is fighting to maintain full guard but Johns has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Johns throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Johns is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stu doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Johns.

Stu misses with a hook from the clinch.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Johns has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Stu after a bit of a struggle.
Johns wants to get back to striking at distance but Stu won't allow it.
Johns lands with a short shot to the head.

Stu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johns. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Johns gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Stu is breathing heavily.
Stu misses with a wild body shot.

Johns's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Johns clinches up with Stu and pushes him back against the cage.
Johns stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jason Johns just wasn't active enough.
No joy there for Stu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Stu thows a body shot but no joy.
Johns shoots for a double leg takedown but Stu sprawls well. He's pushed Johns's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Stu dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Johns shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Stu eats them both and turns towards Johns to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Disco Stu has been cut.
Johns goes for a double leg but Stu avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Stu continues to drive forward.

Johns decides to pull guard.
Johns looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Johns looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Johns escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Johns manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stu manages to get himself to full guard.

Johns controls from within his opponent's guard.
Johns has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Stu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Stu can't keep his opponent in guard - Johns advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Johns decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Johns has Stu up against the cage in a clinch.

Johns pulls guard effortlessly.
Johns looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Johns is on top in guard.

Johns sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stu's guard.
Stu wants to sweep but Johns has passed to side control!
Stu is trying to escape the position but Johns is controlling the position.
Johns working the ground and pound but Stu is defending the strikes.
Stu felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Jason Johns overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Johns content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johns, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
