The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sao Pedro shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ortiz is trying to defend but Sao Pedro finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sao Pedro misses with a head shot. Ortiz uses the momentum to regain guard.
Ortiz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sao Pedro's guard.
Ortiz throwing strikes but missing.
Ortiz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sao Pedro can do anything to dispel that myth.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ortiz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Sao Pedro tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Sao Pedro is in a horrible position here. Ortiz smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ortiz cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Sao Pedro is rocked!
Ortiz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sao Pedro is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sao Pedro is still in real trouble! Can Ortiz finish him?
Sao Pedro is looking to improve his position but Ortiz isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Sao Pedro is working for an americana but Ortiz has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Sao Pedro was thinking about the submission.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Horrible takedown by Ortiz or perhaps it was just good defense by Sao Pedro which made him look bad.

After the fight, Ryan Ortiz was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
