PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darek Bautista (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Abraham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bautista comes into the arena with Blur by Wretch 32 blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Darek Bautista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Robert Abraham!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, David Hoff and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bautista shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Bautista seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bautista throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Bautista wants to work for an arm triangle but Abraham is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bautista wants to get back to his feet.

Bautista looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bautista is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Abraham defends it well.

Abraham tries to roll over but Bautista keeps him under control.
Bautista thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Bautista escapes and gets back to his feet.
Bautista fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Abraham avoids it really well and circles away.
Bautista throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Abraham shoots in looking for a takedown. Bautista tries to sprawl out of it but Abraham keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bautista manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck for Bautista with that takedown attempt.

Bautista is trying to drag Abraham to the mat but Abraham just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darek Bautista. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Abraham tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Abraham changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bautista fights it off and pushes away nicely.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bautista is trying to trip Abraham. He has hold of a leg but Abraham is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Bautista persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Bautista got a little sloppy there for a moment and Abraham has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bautista has managed to get both his arms back between Abraham's legs - danger averted.
Abraham is wriggling around but Bautista manages to pass to half guard.
Bautista is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Bautista lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Bautista winds up and cracks Abraham with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bautista connects with a nice short shot to Abraham's temple.

Bautista looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bautista uses his free foot to push down on Abraham's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Abraham.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Bautista breaks from Abraham's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Bautista has hold of Abraham's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Abraham manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darek Bautista dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bautista is defended easily by Abraham.
Abraham throws a nice inside leg kick.
Bautista fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Abraham manages to avoid it.
Bautista connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Abraham shoots in for a double leg but Bautista sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bautista throws a right and a left that both miss.

Abraham gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bautista to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Bautista wants to control from the top but Abraham keeps moving.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bautista keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Abraham's head.
Abraham is breathing heavily.

Abraham wants to stand and escape but Bautista is having none of it.
Bautista lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bautista throws a big right hand that misses.
Bautista is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Abraham can do to turn this around?

Abraham is rocked!
Bautista postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Abraham covers up, he's hurt! Bautista keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Bautista and the ref steps in to end the fight! Bautista can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Darek Bautista!
