PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Anthony (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elmo Salty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Salty comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Gonna Fly Now kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Elmo Salty told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Stephen Anthony!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Elmo Salty!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Chris Edwards and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salty blocks a jab.
Salty wants to slow Anthony down by chopping away at his legs.
Salty will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Salty keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Salty steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Anthony.
Salty ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Salty throws a right hand that Anthony ducks under and follows up with a left that Anthony also avoids with ease.
Salty lands with a good body shot.
Anthony misses with a lunging right hand
and Salty counters with a nice uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Anthony has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Salty finds it's way round the side to connect with Anthony's head.


It looks like Stephen Anthony has been cut.
Anthony keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Salty slips under a jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The crowd cheers as Salty lands an impressive looking overhand right. Anthony doesn't seem phased though.
Elmo Salty is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Anthony scores with a head kick. Salty tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Anthony shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Anthony wants to control but Salty is keeping him busy.
Salty wants to get back to his feet.
Anthony working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Anthony throwing shots but Salty is blocking nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Salty can do anything to dispel that myth.
Anthony takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Salty is trying to stand.
Anthony is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Anthony is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Salty can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Anthony throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Salty has his hands clasped together but Anthony breaks the hold and Salty is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Anthony!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Stephen Anthony!
After winning the bout, Stephen Anthony thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
