Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ello Mate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Soda Popinski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soda Popinski will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ello Mate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Soda Popinski!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Popinski misses with a body shot.

Mate looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Popinski is looking to improve his position.
Popinski trying to control here.
Popinski wants to improve his position but Mate is controlling well.
Popinski controlling the position for now.
Mate wants to control but Popinski is keeping him busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mate trying to mount his opponent but Popinski defends it.
Popinski has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mate is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Some wild striking there from Popinski.
Mate slips under a jab from Popinski.
Mate shoots for a double leg takedown but Popinski sprawls well. He's pushed Mate's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mate fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mate goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Mate lands a head kick that stumbles Popinski and the fighters go to the mat.


It looks like Soda Popinski has been cut.
Popinski wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mate trying to control the position from guard on top but Popinski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mate is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Popinski is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mate preventing the sweep.
Mate trying to control but Popinski is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Popinski looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mate is one step ahead there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mate takes one to the side of the head.


It looks like Ello Mate has been cut.
Popinski tests Mate's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Popinski throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mate throws a series of punches but Popinski moves out of range.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Mate, right into the meat.
Soda Popinski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mate looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Popinski!
Mate is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Poor strikes thrown by Mate there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Popinski wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Mate.
Mate takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mate thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ello Mate dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Popinski throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mate.
Popinski tries to bum rush Mate with a series of wild strikes but Mate uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mate shoots in and drives through. Popinski sprawls well.
Popinski keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Mate closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Mate breaks the clinch.
Popinski works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Mate leaves his chin hanging out and Popinski seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Mate crumbles to the floor in a heap, and the referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Soda Popinski!
