PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darren Coulter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Boudreault (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Darren Coulter had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 156.6lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Darren Coulter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darren Coulter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rob Boudreault!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coulter misses with a takedown attempt - Boudreault sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Boudreault.
Coulter misses with a series of wild punches.
Coulter tries to clinch but Boudreault moves out of range.

Boudreault drives through with a takedown into Coulter's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Boudreault trying to control the position from guard on top but Coulter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Coulter has a closed guard, preventing Boudreault from standing up.
Boudreault throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Coulter works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Boudreault is looking to stand up but Coulter won't let him.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Coulter holds on and takes a little breather.
Coulter can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Boudreault controls the pace.
Coulter working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Boudreault.
Boudreault tries to stand but Coulter is controlling from the bottom.
Coulter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Darren Coulter.

Boudreault shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Coulter manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Boudreault decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Coulter, up you get!

Coulter is breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Boudreault is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boudreault wants to control from the top but Coulter keeps moving.
Boudreault is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Rob Boudreault has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Coulter tries to clinch there but Boudreault circles away.
Boudreault tries to bum rush Coulter with a series of wild strikes but Coulter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Boudreault fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Darren Coulter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coulter fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Coulter keeps the fight on the outside.
Boudreault tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Boudreault is looking to take this one to the mat.
Darren Coulter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rob Boudreault.
Boudreault has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Coulter is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Boudreault's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Coulter stuffs the takedown.
Boudreault pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Coulter back to the cage. Boudreault follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Coulter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Boudreault but Boudreault pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Boudreault shoots in looking for a takedown. Coulter tries to sprawl out of it but Boudreault keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Coulter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Coulter looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Coulter lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Coulter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Boudreault paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Coulter tries to clinch but Boudreault is having none of it.
Coulter fails with a takedown attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Coulter enables Boudreault to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Coulter manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Coulter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Boudreault's guard.

Coulter stands up and waves to Boudreault to follow him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Boudreault dominated that round.
That's time! Coulter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Boudreault will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Coulter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The fight stays on the outside here - Coulter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Boudreault throwing strikes here but Coulter is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Boudreault is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Coulter has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Boudreault is landing with some decent strikes but Coulter is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Rob Boudreault showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Coulter has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Coulter has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Boudreault after a bit of a struggle.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Boudreault escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Boudreault jabs Coulter to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Boudreault darts in and clinches Coulter up against the cage.
Boudreault is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Coulter pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Boudreault has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Coulter avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Boudreault has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boudreault gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Coulter is fighting off a takedown attempt but Boudreault is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Coulter to the mat. Coulter regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Coulter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Boudreault is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rob Boudreault was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Boudreault lands a high kick!

Boudreault throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Coulter was covering up waiting for the punch and Boudreault finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Boudreault has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Boudreault gets to his feet. Coulter looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Coulter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Boudreault to score an easy takedown into full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Boudreault decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Rob Boudreault comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Boudreault has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
