The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hurley throws a head kick but Shannon moves out of range.
Shannon doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Hurley counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hurley postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Shannon controls Hurley momentarily but Hurley frees himself.
Shannon is pulling down on Hurley's head. It's preventing any offense from Hurley, at least for the moment.

Shannon is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Shannon pulls Hurley in to control the position.
Hurley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shannon on the ground.

Shannon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hurley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hurley is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Shannon has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Hurley is looking to defend but Shannon has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Hurley! Shannon pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Hurley taps out and this one is all over!

After the fight, Leon Shannon was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
