PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Renggi Kentani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocky Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Balboa has chosen Gonna Fly Now as his entrance music. Rocky Balboa is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Renggi Kentani!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rocky Balboa !
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Balboa drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Balboa trying to control the action but Kentani is working from the bottom.
Kentani tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Balboa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Balboa working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Balboa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kentani keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kentani tries to clinch up.

and Balboa counters with a single leg into guard. Kentani didn't expect that.
Balboa seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kentani wants to stand but Balboa is controlling the position.

Balboa won't allow Kentani to get back to his feet.
Balboa tries to free his leg and advance position but Kentani is retaining full guard.

Balboa wants to control from the top but Kentani keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Balboa closes the distance and clinches.
Balboa slowing the pace effectively.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kentani has Balboa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Balboa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Kentani jumps guard but Balboa stands there with Kentani around his waist. Kentani gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renggi Kentani. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kentani wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kentani unloads a knee to the mid-section. Balboa lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Balboa wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kentani can't break the clinch.
Kentani jumps guard but Balboa stands there with Kentani around his waist. Kentani gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Balboa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A left hand lands to the body for Kentani.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kentani wants to break free but Balboa has control.
Balboa has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kentani is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Balboa tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kentani just stands there and leans against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rocky Balboa dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Kentani closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kentani lands in his opponent's guard.
Balboa keeping moving, preventing Kentani from controlling successfully.
Balboa looking for a sweep. Not yet Balboa , not yet.
Kentani controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kentani stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Balboa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Balboa is breathing heavily.
Kentani not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Kentani prevents Balboa from getting back to his feet.
Kentani stands up over Balboa , holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Balboa can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kentani passes into half guard.
Balboa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kentani. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kentani is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Balboa !

Kentani is standing up, even though he is in mount.

and Balboa counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Balboa .
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kentani looking to hit a scissor sweep but Balboa is one step ahead there.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Balboa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kentani wants to get back to his feet but Balboa is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Balboa trying to control the position from guard on top but Kentani is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kentani is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kentani tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Balboa just stands there and leans against the cage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Renggi Kentani will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Kentani tries to clinch but Balboa moves away
and Balboa counters with a left and a right that stings Kentani.
Kentani throws a head kick that misses.
Balboa does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Kentani looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Balboa is defending well. Kentani quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Balboa has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Kentani celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Renggi Kentani!
