PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Helm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown comes to the cage accompanied by Earth Angel. Helm has chosen Hardcore- Mr. Saul Fuentes as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Helm!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Helm moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.


It looks like Tony Brown has been cut.
Helm throws a big shot that misses.
Brown steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Helm. That one must have hurt.
James Helm seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brown shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Helm but Helm pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Helm tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Brown counters with a stiff right hand.


It looks like James Helm has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brown fails to land the takedown.
Brown avoids a kick to the body.
A punch lands to the side of Brown 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Brown fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Oooooh!!! Helm has knocked Brown down with a huge combo! Helm steps away and waves a wobbly Brown back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Helm should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Helm is looking to clinch but Brown is avoiding it.
Helm tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Brown paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Brown swats away the attempt to clinch by Helm.
Helm wants to clinch up but Brown keeps it at a distance.
Helm tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Brown manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Brown scores with a leg kick.
Brown swats away the attempt to clinch by Helm.
Helm feints a jab promting Brown to slip. Helm then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Brown slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


Tony Brown's cut is getting worse.
Helm tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Brown paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Helm throws a series of punches but Brown moves out of range.
Helm throws a one two combo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Brown decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Helm's guard.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Helm is trying to keep Brown in close.
Helm wants to stand up but Brown is controlling him.

Helm working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brown doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brown manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Helm wants to stand up but Brown is controlling him.

Tony Brown has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Good work by Brown as he checks the leg kick.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Helm tries to sprawl but Brown drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Helm wants to get back to full guard.
Brown thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Helm is looking for a sweep. Brown is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Brown passes to side control.
Helm is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Helm dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Helm misses with an attempted mid kick.
Helm fails with an attempt to clinch.
Helm fails in his attempt to clinch.
Helm slaps away a takedown attempt from Brown, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Brown keeps the fight on the outside.
Brown takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Helm gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Helm prevents a takedown attempt there.
Helm is looking to break free of the clinch but Brown has double underhooks.
We've been informed that Helm has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Helm is pushing Brown up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Brown prevents Helm from breaking the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Helm swings wildly with an uppercut but Brown uses good head movement to avoid it.
Brown goes for a takedown attempt but Helm pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Helm tries to clinch but Brown moves away
and Brown counters with a slapping leg kick.
Brown swats away the attempt to clinch by Helm.
James Helm seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The fight stays on the outside here - Helm looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Brown feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Brown slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Brown controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tony Brown wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Helm tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Brown counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brown in particular looking to stall.

Helm tries to kick Brown off in order to stand up. Brown Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Brown passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Helm!

Helm keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Brown content just to control the position here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Helm is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Brown off and has taken his back!

Brown tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Brown regains half guard.
Brown is concentrating on defense, preventing Helm from advancing position.

Helm stands up and beckons Brown to join him on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Helm fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brown, pushing him back against the cage.
Helm tries to break free but Brown pushes him back against the cage.
Brown keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Helm's efforts to push away.
Helm is trying to break the clinch but Brown has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Helm's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Brown has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Helm clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Tony Brown overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Brown biding his time, looking for the opening.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Helm looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Brown keeps control of the position easily here as Helm tries to buck him off.
Helm is in bad spot here.
Helm trying to control the position but Brown manages to sink in the hooks.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brown cracks Helm with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Helm from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Brown has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Helm's body.
Helm has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Helm is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tony Brown showed his dominance in that final round.
