PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sonny Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Boy's choice of entrance music: Those Dancin Days - Run Run. Sonny Boy is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sonny Boy!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Glass and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a hook to the side of Boy's head but Boy sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A big left from Jones misses.
Jones throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jones misses with a looping left.
Boy ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
Boy lands with a kick to the temple. Jones shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Jones misses with a looping right.
Boy moves away from the strike by Jones.
Jones throws a lazy right hand but Boy sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Jones misses with a looping right.
Jones misses with a straight right.
Nice defenses there by Boy.
Boy avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jones misses with an uppercut. Boy saw that one coming.
Jones throws out a loose jab but Boy uses good head movement to avoid it.
Nice defenses there by Boy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones fails to land with a series of punches.
Tommy Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circling - Jones throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A swing and a miss from Jones.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Jones, as that shot connected.

Boy drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boy on the ground.
Boy passes Jones's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Boy sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jones defending well though.

Boy with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Jones blocking the ground and pound attempt from Boy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boy looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jones tries to kick Boy off but Boy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Boy is looking for a kimura but Jones is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Boy to get the leverage.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Boy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Jones is trying to stand.
Jones blocking the ground and pound attempt from Boy.
Still in half guard, Boy seems content to control.
Jones keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Boy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Boy slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Boy advances position into side control!
Boy controlling the position.
Jones is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Boy has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Boy is dominant here and he's now got Jones's back!
Jones's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Boy thowing shots but they're missing.

Boy is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jones can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Boy looking to control and managing it successfully.

Boy wants to finish this one by submission but Jones is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Boy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A punch lands to the side of Boy 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Jones throws the left hand but Boy avoids the punch easily.
Boy defending well as Jones loads up on a big left hand.

Boy slips under a jab.
Nice defenses there by Boy.
Boy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.

Boy staying out of range there.
Jones throws a hook but Boy avoids it easily.
Jones missing with a left hand there. Boy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Jones misses with a wild combination.
Jones throws a big shot that misses.
Boy changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Boy gets a takedown into half guard.

Boy content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jones avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Boy.
Boy landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Boy stalling.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Boy is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jones!

Boy has control of Jones's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jones regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boy throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Boy looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Jones is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Boy connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Boy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Jones avoids a series of strikes thrown by Boy.
Jones is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Boy lands with some strikes.
Boy content just to control the position here.

Boy has hold of Jones's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jones manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sonny Boy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Boy gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Boy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Jones looks like he's trying to stand up.
Boy works his way into full mount!

Boy content just to control the position here.
Boy throwing strikes here but Jones is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Boy thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Boy jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jones manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Boy has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Boy controlling the pace for now.
Boy throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Jones is trying to stand up.
Jones tries to buck Boy off but Boy takes his back!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Boy is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Jones trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Tommy Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones covering up well and avoiding damage.

Sonny Boy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Boy winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
