PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Epic Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikko Sinkila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mikko Sinkila!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Winston Alpacca and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sinkila to the mat! Sinkila manages to get full guard.
Penn passes Sinkila's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sinkila looks like he's trying to stand up.
Penn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sinkila keeps working.
Penn wants to stand up but Sinkila has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sinkila really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We're going to have a standup here because Epic Penn wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Penn gets caught flat footed, as Sinkila shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn wants to improve his position but instead Sinkila has moved into half guard.

Sinkila seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Penn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mikko Sinkila was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Penn clinches with his opponent.

Penn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sinkila smiles and moves away.
Penn tests Sinkila's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Penn tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sinkila defends well and Penn ends up having to push Sinkila into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Nice elbow from Sinkila.
Sinkila comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Sinkila jumps guard but Penn stands there with Sinkila around his waist. Sinkila gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Sinkila tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Penn avoids it.

Sinkila lands a body shot in the clinch.
Penn drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Epic Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Penn tries for a takedown but Sinkila manages to get underhooks.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Penn.
Sinkila digs a right hand underneath Penn's ribcage. Penn let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Sinkila misses with a knee to the head.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Penn is trying to break the clinch but Sinkila is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Penn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Sinkila pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Penn fails with the takedown.
Penn looks to land a combination but Sinkila avoids it well.
Sinkila keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Epic Penn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Penn shoots in but Sinkila avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Penn has taken the fight to the clinch.
We've been informed that Sinkila has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Penn is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sinkila can't fight it off and eventually Penn manages to take the fight to the floor. Sinkila looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Penn wants to control from the top but Sinkila keeps moving.
Penn is really struggling to control Sinkila but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sinkila wants to stand up but Penn is controlling him.

Epic Penn has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Sinkila slaps away a takedown attempt from Penn, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Penn takes the fight into the clinch.
Penn lands with a short shot to the head.

Penn is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sinkila can't fight it off and eventually Penn manages to take the fight to the floor. Sinkila looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Penn gets to his feet. Sinkila looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Penn fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sinkila avoids it really well and circles away.
Penn throws a head kick that misses

and Sinkila holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Sinkila slips a jab and a cross from Penn.

Penn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sinkila's guard.

Penn stands and steps away. Sinkila gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Penn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sinkila did well to prevent Penn getting side control.
Penn thows a huge punch but Sinkila dodges it nicely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Penn is trying to control. Sinkila wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Sinkila takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Penn is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sinkila is surviving well by controlling Penn's body position as best he can.

Sinkila tries to lock up and control but Penn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Sinkila sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Sinkila wants to get back to his feet.
Penn not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Penn stalling away here and it's allowed Sinkila to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Penn is pushing down on Sinkila's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sinkila is fighting to maintain full guard but Penn has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
